The Water Margin: Complete Series [DVD]

Nice box set, no frills, dubbed audio only
For this 2016 release, all 26 episodes have been condensed on to ten DVDs in a fat, sturdy clamshell case, with a booklet containing a brief episode guide. The original UK broadcasts (and the basis of an earlier DVD set) were somewhat censored. This set restores the original uncut episodes, with the UK title sequences spliced in at each end. This process must be what they mean by 'remastered'... The image is certainly clean and colourful, pretty grainy but not too noisy, and of course in 4:3 ratio. We get just the original UK dubbed soundtrack, which was done to a high technical standard, even if the dialogue is probably some distance from being accurate. Anyway, this is The Water Margin in the format UK viewers remember it; as such, it doesn't disappoint.

great, but
only negative, picture ratio is old 4:2 , would have been 5 stars had the ratio been updated, but maybe not possible. picture is excellent, sound is clear , those that remember this on bbc2 will be pleasantly suprised, everyone else, its a good story, decent action, comedic touches and the lip sync is mostly superior to the usual east to west overdub of martial arts dvds. no extras but i didnt expect any as bloopers would have been destroyed and no one made behind the scenes then. this is the entire series, as sold to bbc only cleaned up and enhanced, Burt (KATO, ENTWISTLE ELECTRICS) Kwouck provides the intros and occasional narration (apparently missing from some sets).

i did have a problem with the Aspect ratio (image) as there was Black bars on the left side and right side of the screen that i couldnt remove and the viewing size was only 24 inch on a 37 inch tv i have now fixed this problem with the Aspect ratio (image) and now viewing the water margin in full screen mode and not the 24 inch viewing mode i couldnt call the picture HD source material at all but the picture is acceptable for the age of the tv series the studio who relesed this on DVD should'nt be giving out misleading information on the Aspect ratio (image who wants too see this in 24 inch viewing size on a on a 37 inch tv i dont four sure and im sure others dont as for the water margin one great tv

Fantastic trip down memory lsne
I remembered this as a kid. I loved it then and I wasn't sure if my memory served me right. In truth it is even better than I remembered. The characters and stories are fantastic and the fight scenes suitably hilarious. The dubbing would never be acceptable nowadays, but it was part of the show's charm and entirely acceptable back in the seventies so I don't see it as a problem. We'll worth the money...

So so good
Water Margin was shown on BBC2 when I was young and I am so enjoying these DVDs they are so good. Its basically the same series I saw on the BBC with the same narration and dubbing. Brilliant.

ONLY English Audio, NO Spanish or Italian AUDIO as in description
THE WATER MARGIN from Fabulous films is a Great series that brought me back to the late seventies when a black and white TV was available, competing with the KUNG FU movies fever, in the cinemas. Watching it 40 years later in MAGNIFICENT PICTURE QUALITY and COLOUR ( better then McGyver or A-Team series owned, made in the eighties) is awesome. It's too bad that a great show put into DVD production NOWADAYS in the UK, ( and around the world ) STILL lacks some sort of any, Closed Captioning, Hearing Impaired or Subtitle features. Don't the people that CAN NOT hear deserve MORE ATTENTION? Thus, my 4 stars are given. The series itself is deserving of 5 stars for it's picture quality and colour, even though the sound is AC3 2 channel. Here some information about the DVD's themselves:The box contains 13 colourful dvd's, each containing 2 episodes and a two page episode brief summary. Each episode is 40 to 45 minutes long. Extras are synopses, still galleries and character biographies, NO other language is available besides English. Please, note that I'm not hearing impaired, but I feel sympathetic with those who are, and I happen to love reading. At the end I still congratulate Fabulous Films for putting this great series on DVD. WELL DONE, but there is still room for improvement ( put some sort of subtitles, and a few more extras), then you will get 5 stars.
