okay for seedlings, not much else for us
So it didn't kill the seedlings outright, but every plant in this ends up stunted after a few weeks in it. Some show nute lockout, other issues aren't entirely clear. Repotting to a known quality soil(I like happy frog for small plants and vegging and then ocean forest for bigger fruiting budding plants) means it gets fixed almost over night.I can't figure out what it is, maybe it holds too much water and that leads to nute issues. Maybe if you have your nutes really dialed in you would be able to use this longer. I grow in dirt because I don't want to be a chemist, so probably going to try something else for baby plants.Essentially the problem is this pushes up re potting before the plant is rootbound which is not how I like to do things and these basically made me buy a new set of pots for the adjusted re pot schedule.Plants with the cotyledon still intact seem fine, once a few real leaf sets have grown in repot repot repot.

EXCELLENT
Didn’t really think this soil would be different when ordering it. Once I did receive it and opened the bag I was very surprised! No wonder this was a highly recommended soil. I’ve never felt soil like this before. And when you water it, it doesn’t sink? I plant a lot and never experienced soil like this! Very satisfied!

High Success even with Tough Plants
I've started many types of plants from seed with this mix and I love it. I don't mess with peat pellets anymore. In particular, I tried to grow passion fruit from seed in multiple different grow mediums, and this worked the best. When I transplanted them all, I left one in this mix just to see what would happen, and although it is starting to show some signs of stress, this is after months of growth. Nice to know I don't have to worry too much about re-potting right away after they sprout.

Germination then Stall
Purchased this Black Gold seedling mix for tomatoes and peppers I planned to start for Spring 2020. Terrible idea. Seeds germinated just fine but NEVER over the past 3 weeks grew any larger. Cotyledons were shriveled, twisted, and curled and never grew any larger than can be seen in the images. Made a terrible mistake this season right out of the gate. Strongly consider other options before purchasing this seedling mix.

Just go buy a bag of Peat
Not like seed starters that I have purchased in the past (Finally exhausted the 'stash'). NEVER had anything added to the mix, just a fine peat substrate. Don't you think that anything added to it such as this disqualifies itself as being a seed starter mix? I think so.

Well worth it
Always do well with this product. Plants germinate quickly, also have what they need to grow beautifully.

Very nice fine texture.
Nice soil for starting seeds. Actually seems like the seedlings are coming along better than with our previous brand.

Great soil - overpriced.
I love this seedling mix. Have used it for the past few seasons with great results.Took one star off for the price. I admit, I didn't do my research, but for the price of these two 8 quart bags, I could have bought two 16 quart bags at my local store.
