cothing designing by fabric draping for pattenmaking
Cardmaking has drawn me away from sewing for some time and it is because of a lack of good advanced reference books available for pattenmaking and sewing for home sewers. I love to design, this book has opened my creative process up again and inspired me to return to pattern making. This book is not for a begining pattern maker or seamstress. You can learn from it but it will overwhelm you. I am still in the process of reading and learninig what the book has to offer. For the price I believe it will meet my needs at least for a while and allow me the freedom to recreate some of the fashions I love in the expensive catalogs I can't afford to buy nor want to.As I work through the book and put it the test I will be in a better place to review how great the information is and how well one can use it. As in any craft, your ability to take a material and do something fabulous is often a matter of the work invovled, putting the time and energy into the process, and having access to the great materials.Scrapbooking and paper crafting has exploded with great products but the seamstress must dig hard to find the products that will bring awe and a great finished product. This has not changed as I have been in and out of many fabric shops recentley looking for fabrics. But the internet certainly has a lot to offer in fabrics provided you know what you want and are willing to buy sight unseen which comes with a whole other set of complications to deal with. Women like Martha Pullen keep the craft of sewing fresh and inspiring. I was excited to find this book and didn't think twice about investing the money. The book was everything I was seeking and so much more. jnetti.

A beautiful, practical how-to
While this book is quite expensive because it is a textbook, it is worth every penny to the advanced sewer who is beyond alterations to ready-made patterns but needs specific concrete instructions on how to drape their own designs. Despite the glamorous cover, the book is practical and straightforwardly organized. Fully-illustrated, it clearly walks you through draping every imaginable garment, one component at a time. You do have to be working off an actual body or a dressform, as this is draping to personalized fit, not pattern-making to industry specs. If you have not mastered garment construction the book will be over your head. It truly sticks to the topic of draping and design. There are many aspects of making original clothing which are not covered, from fabric selection to couturier construction techniques. This is not an advanced sewing manual. It is about draping and I can't imagine it being more clear or thorough on that topic. Invaluable for the new designer. If only it came with Tim Gunn to offer constructive critiques as you worked...

Just what I wanted
Draping for Apparel Design is wonderful. The book is clear, with excellent diagrams to accompany the descriptions. I have long wanted to learn how to drape, but was not sure which book was the best. This was just what I wanted. Totally worth the price. (It saved me from having to take a very expensive course to learn the same information.)

Fabulous
Great book, full of informative easy to read information. I was apprehensive in purchasing this book at first as I was unalbe to preview parts of the book but it was well worth getting. I would recommend it.This book is very easy to ready with plenty of pictures with step by step instructions so you are able to follow and understand what is being conveyed. It covers 'drapping essentials, manipulating dart excess, bodice styles, bias cut dresses, jacket & coats, collars, etc' to name a few. Each of these chapters talks about and shows different styles. They also include a 'design analysis' on the styles which gives you information about the design eg, bias cut, type of dart etc.I hope you enjoy this book as much as I am.

Purchased for school, use it all the time.
One of the few textbooks I've actually read! Step by step illustrated guide on how to drape all of the basics. The text explanations can be a bit confusing in some sections, but if you understand the foundations you should be able to get past that. This is great resource for beginners and moderate designers alike.

Xmas in June.
I just have to say how pleased I am. The book was excellent condition. It was even in a cheerful packaged. Like Xmas in June. I'm checking with the same person to see what else she may have.

Pearls at swine
bought for a spoilt snobby ungrateful bitch who probably glanced at it once and is not fit to cast her shadow on her once loving devoted husband and father of her lovely child
