Doctor In The House: 1

Loved the TV shows, films and BBC radio shows.The book, printed by ama, on, has such small text I cannot red it without a magnifying glass, very disappointed.Will most likely chuck it in the bin or use it as kindling to start a fire. A GREAT SHAME

Richard Gordon's "Doctor in the House" is just what the doctor ordered for thoroughly good light reading. Gordon takes the reader with him throughthe lectures,clinics and hospital wards,which are the elements of medical training at a time when the Almighty was neither the cosultant nor the registrar but the formidable MATRON. We share the eccentricities of surgeons and amorous adventures of students. We also learn some of the wisdom of the "Padre" who is the landlord of the students' local.Richard Gordon shows genuine affection by poking fun without malice at his time in St.Swithens where a bunch of irresponsible students are transformed into doctors whom one hopes are responsible adults. By any standards this is a very readable and enjoyable book

This wonderful book by Dr. Richard Gordon is extremely amusing at the same time though it gives one an insight into what really goes on at medical school. Although the area and the name of the shool is fictional it is based on Richard Gordon's experiences and it makes us realise just how much hard work and training goes into a medical career. This is a must read book which I recomend to all and don't worry about any medical jargon because it's extremely straightforward.Peter McCann

I have to ration the number of times I read this book as I adore it so much. I am currently re-reading Doctor at Sea too and it is nearly as goo. The others in the doctor Series, well I think Dr Ostlere went downhill a bit ofter the initial two. But Dr In the House is a gem. Buy it, read it, love it.

While I enjoyed the book I much preferred the film.

a humorous book to pass the time

I bought this for my teenage daughter as I remember how much I enjoyed these books as a youth. Yes she enjoyed it too and has followed up with a number of other books in this series.

Again great to read the original book and compare it to the films that I love so much.
