"Heroes" (2017

'My My you can't say no'..to this stone cold classic!
The rogue myth of a Berlin trilogy often irks me now tbh. Stay with me here people.. Heros is the only truly Berlin recorded album, 'Low' was recorded in Paris, and 'The Lodger' (a real mess in the end 😳) was recorded in Switzerland and NYC. So that said we focus on the real deal that Heros truly is! At its heart its an album of piano led stompers with Dave honking away on his sax, and this is an amazing 2017 version on CD, and man that band from the Low sessions plus Robert Fripp for extra crazy licks! Eno and Visconti do a dam fine job of making this all feel bonkers, cutting edge, yet sonically intriguing all at the same time. The songs are just so good, lyrically Dave has got his Sh#t together after the burnt out vagaries of Low, and the Berlin vibe runs through the whole thing like a stick of Kreuzberg rock! What?Anyway, while I'm here...'oh here we go' (third person)..I also feel Dave B was a fantastic catalyst for creative collaboration, giving space and energy to those around him to really shine. I.e. Dennis Davis's rollicking drums, Carlos Alomar's funky rhythms, Mr Fripp's err Frippery, and Eno's synth work are just wonderful and bring so much here! I.e 'Blackout, Joe the Lion, The Secret Life of Arabia'. ALL the instrumentals are amazing and were so ahead of their time in 77. So, a career high in my view and the pinnacle of that 'Berlin Period'.. NOT a trilogy then!! "Ohh Let it go mate, it's not worth it"!!

Quick synopsis
I'll just keep things simple by stating some of the obvious. "Heroes" is a fantastic, iconic and groundbreaking album consisting of art rock, experimental rock, electronic and ambient - with some other icons (apart from Bowie, obviously) including: Robert Fripp on lead guitar (now national treasure), Carlos Alomar on rhythm guitar and Eno taking care of synthesisers, keyboards and guitar treatments (Bowie also played keyboards, guitars and saxophone etc). The ambient instrumentals range from jaunty, to icy, moody and doom-laden, then calm and meditation, and finally despair. And even if you were never that fond of this Bowie album it would still be essential just to have the full length version of "Heroes" in all its synth anthemic glory, and historically. I just wish the 2017 Remaster for the CD could have been a little better.

SO HAPPY
THIS album changed EVERYTHING.It was such a risk to devote an entire side of this album to instrumentals. But it works. A visionary. Bowie will be played forever.

Quality reissue
Was missing 2 of the ' Berlin Trilogy ' albums on vinyl, and the reissues seemed a good buy for the money.Definitely not dissapointed!.Both Heroes and Low were reproduced with all the fanzines and original inners which was a very welcome detail. The vinyl itself was well pressed and quiet sounding, which is not always the case with modern pressings. The music and songs speak for themselves and are fabulous.

Vinyl remaster
The best of his Berlin era worth buying for the full length version of "Heroes" in itself. Recognise some criticism for the heavily Enofication ambient instrumentals on side 2 but I enjoy them. Albeit not his greatest album stilk superb. Vinyl is a good pressing and comes with all the original inserts including a card to join his 1977 fanclub at $5 annually! Iconic cover photo.

David was my Hero
I originally had this fantastic David Bowie album on cassette tape played many times on car journeys using my first personal stereo. My brother had the album on vinyl which we would listen to along with his Low album and Lodger albums most weekends. The artwork on my brothers original heroes album is far more sharp and the clearer than the remastered album artwork. Since I bought this album I have played it many many times and never tire of hearing it.
