Whetstone 1000 Grit: Adding to the Collection
This 1000 grit natural whetstone? Just added it to my collection. It's got a nice, simple vibe, and honestly, it just looks kinda cute. Haven't put it to the test yet, but it seems like a solid option for general knife sharpening, from kitchen blades to outdoor tools. Looking forward to seeing how it performs. Can't wait to use it.
Feels durable and looks nicely cut. Holds water on the top very well and absorbs water very well.

Very glassy, definitely doesn't feel like 800 or anywhere close - UPDATE!
At first this stone looks like sedimentary rock from the sides, but the top and bottom are very smooth. Even an Atoma 140 didn't rough it up really, it stayed fairly glass smooth. The stone released red fine particles in the water. It absorbs zero grams of water. I laid a single bevel knife and after a minute, the polish looks almost like a Rika 5000. Seems to be more of finisher than an edge shaper. Update: This stone needs to be lapped before use. I used 60-90 grit loose SIC on a floor tile. It removes the polished smoothness and opens up the stone, it definitely does feel like 800 grit now. Five stars but you need to rough up the surface when you get it.

Broken before being shipped.
Item cracked from end to end with a large chuck (not in the shipping box) missing on the end. If the broken chunk is missing then I submit it was shipped broken. Just removed this stone from an un-damaged shipping box with other items in the same box. Shipping box with no damage. All other items in this un-damaged box are perfectly fine. The item damaged was wrapped in tape and foam as seen in the pictures. Cracked from end to end.

Whetstone is lopsided
Whetstone came unusable without serious alignment. Came well packed and undamaged.

Nice whet stone
Nice stone accurate at about 1k grit only issue was the stone came chipped on the corner but it doesn't effect performance so still gave it 4 stars.

Natural whetstone
Ok, so I bought both natural sharpening stones from this seller. Both the 3k and 800 grit variations. Here's my honest opinion on both... Both were packaged well, came wrapped in foam and taped well. There was no damage at all to either stone. They both are the same length and width and height, with the red 800 stone being slightly tapered on height by 1/8" on one end. Both stones were flat enough as I always run my stones over a diamond plate and these only took a few swipes on all 4 faces to flatten. Red 800 is much more coarse than the 3k green/blue. The granular structure is evident on the sides almost like a red sandstone and slightly rough. Faces are smooth with visible grit. The red stone is noticeably harder than the green/blue. I can scratch the 3k stone with my thumbnail and no scratches on the red 800. Red 800 produces a reddish slurry with a few passes with a ceramic 1k nagura while the 3k produces a milky fine slurry. The red stone cut a great bevel on an old chef knife and has the feel and consistency of a natural coarse stone. I'd say somewhere around 600 to 1k grit depending on how much pressure you use and slurry thickness. It left a clean bevel, with visible scratches and a dusky ground finish. The 3k stone created a finer slurry quicker than the red 800. I'd say the grit is accurate 2k to 4k depending on pressure and slurry. It cut very well with pressure and slurry, leaving a fine but dusky finish. And after clearing slurry, and lapping the blade with light pressure and clean water it did polish the edge. It's not mirror finish but polished nicely. The edge is keen, and after lapping on leather it's polished and sharp (cut a scrap of dry 10oz leather cleanly) The stones clean up nicely. No noticeable dishing, the metal particles clear off easily and don't get jammed into the faces, and I always flatten them between uses. Just wash them in the sink with water, dry them, and store them. I'm happy with both stones. They are natural stones so they act differently from the typical ceramic or coro whetstones, but they are user friendly and more forgiving than a JNAT. I've sharpened a lot of edges on a lot of blades, and with a lot of different stones. These will fit right in my whetstone collection. I'm happy to have them and certainly will use them. The price is great, and I will buy more (for gifts and to cut a few into slurry stones to go with the gifts and my personal stones as well). These stones are great and useful and you shouldn't have any reservations about owning one or both. I'm a little on the particular side and I'm pleased with them. Happy sharpening all!

Very fine
Good quality and large natural stone. As with the finer option this 500 grit feels much finer. Probably closer to 1000. Worth noting natural stones take longer to sharpen than their synthetic counterpart but also last longer.
