MD Building Cinch® U-Shape Slide-On Under Door Seal, Brown, 36in

I’m very pleased with this door sweep. I removed the old one, cleaned the bottom of the door, measured everything according to the instructions, and cut the new sweep to length with a hacksaw. It cut very easily. The fit was quite tight, which I consider a good thing. It took a fair amount of pounding with a hammer and a block of wood to slide it completely across the door. After installing it, I used a screwdriver at an angle for leverage to push the sweep snugly against the bottom of the door along its entire length. Once I did that, the door closed properly and the seal was excellent. I positioned the slightly rougher cut end on the hinge side, where it’s hidden. I could have smoothed it with sandpaper, but since nobody will ever see it, I didn’t bother. Overall, this was straightforward to install, feels secure, and provides a nice, tight seal. It works exactly as I hoped. We’ll see how it holds up over time, but my first impression is very positive.

Perfect fit and looks great! Easy to cut to size and install. The description was accurate and it seems really well made. Took me under 5 minutes to install, including clean-up. I made sure our door was the correct thickness and had at least 0.5" (~13mm) clearance. It is a tight pressure fit on the door and hasn't shifted at all. It makes a better draft and water seal than our old threshold gasket did. Time will tell on how it wears, but so far, I'm very happy with it.

My expectations weren't very high for a cheap sweep but I was rather pleased with what I got and the results. The material (vinyl) in the photos make the thing looks somewhat hard/dry/plastic-y so I was somewhat uncertain how well it would work, but it's actually nicely balanced. The walls of the sweep that adhere to the door are thicker and more rigid to create a very tight grip while the fins are thinner and bend more easily, vinyl soft and durable to create a good seal. One side of my door has a 1/2" gap and the hinge side has a much much narrower gap but it adjusts on both sides perfectly well to create a perfect seal. There is zero light leaking in from outside now. If you have a standard 1 3/4" door this thing definitely installs without adhesive or screws and can maintain grip. This might have to do with what surface your door has - mine has a coat of latex paint. In fact, the thing is so tight that installation is much easier with a rubber mallet. Sliding it in manually is probably going to be an effort so be aware. Aside from that, installation is a breeze. Measure twice, cut once. Also, once you actually install the thing, you might run into some minor issues with the door not closing if you for example, push the sweep a tad too deep and it bumps into the hinge. Recommend having a utility knife or clippers to do some fine trimming at the ends and this can clean up these sorts of issues. Glad I went with this product.

After wanting to change out my existing door sweep for the door to my garage for years and looking at literally dozens of them, I settled on this one. Glad I did. Door is 32" x 1 3/4". I used tin snips to cut the additional 4" off, but I did it in pieces so I wouldn't ruin it. (Might've tried the hacksaw route but mine had rust on it and that wouldn't look good on white!) Easily slid on with Windex (like another reviewer suggested). You can push it more than halfway, then hold a 1" paperback book flat on the end and gently tap with a hammer the rest of the way. Because of the shape of my door, the edges on the ends poked up and it was hard to get the tin snip on them. Do prior to install (or probably could use fingernail clippers afterward). I had a 1/2" gap to fill and this fit perfectly. After opening and closing the door several times already, I'm confident it will stay on. My original one was black on a white door - the previous owners had painted it white and it was just ugly. Love this one thus far. (Tried to include a pic but couldn't get it to load.)

This gasket is the best you can buy out there (IMHO). I find it is best used if the gap is ½” to ¾”. Less will possibly work, but you may quickly shave off the dangling legs. These can be somewhat hard to install on a 1 ¾” door as the fit is super tight (compression fit). That is why there are no holes for screws. Here is the installation that worked for me (second one installed and lessons learned). 1) The Mark: (if required. Yes, I know it is 36” and so is your door, but trust me). Lay at base of door, flush at one end and mark opposite end at end of door. Trim as below - if length is perfect, skip to 3). 2) The Trim: (lesson learned from installing as is - ¼” extended past the door edge hitting the side frame. Not fun to remove). Use anything you are skilled with: Hack saw, band saw, chain saw or whatever. Here is what I used/did. I used the heavy duty scissors to snip both upstanding legs (as far as I could). I then snipped each dangling leg at the same distance as the upstanding legs. I then used a sharp blade against a small section of 2x4 to cut the bottom – was tough and takes patience / great force. (see cut piece in pics – yes, my door is 36” and I still trimmed off about a ¼”. 3) The Install: Spray Windex on both sides of the lower sides of the door along with a shot that length of the seal (insides). Yes, Windex – as any avid dirt biker knows – lubricates for install and evaporates for a extremely tight seal (like grips on your dirt bike!) Should have bought this stock in the 70’s. 4) The Slide: Before the Windex evaporates, slide the seal from outer end of door (as if you could install any other way). It will be easy for the first 6”, then you will need a gloved (leather preferably) hand to pound it on most of the way. I got it to about to 3-4” left before my palm gave out. From there I used a block of wood (to protect the seal) and a small hammer (yea, the one shown is a tiny tike hammer, but the one I use the most) to tap the seal flush to the door. Now you are almost done. 5) The Pop: More than likely, the seal is up to the bottom of the door. I couldn’t even move my door as it was sealed to the floor. I used a rigid scraper (metal as shown – I have rigid and flexible and had to use the rigid one) sliding under the seal (gently not to damage the dangling fingers) in 6” increments and pulling up (you will hear the pop as it seats with the bottom of your door. I did this to both inside and outside of door. Key: From the Windex spray to the end was done before the Windex dried. Hopefully this helped with the installation.

Keeps out noise and pests. Awesome purchase to replace my existing piece that left a large gap. Very easy to install, just cut to length and slide on.

I bought and installed two. Then discovered I could use one with Kerf rail attachment so ordered those as back up. For these U channel type one came in fine shape. Other was deformed with the four seal ribbons bent almost to 80°. But I was OK with that because one door had a very small gap to seal, so fit the deformity. They install hard even using trick of soapy water. If you can install from bottom up do so and not hammer much sideways. There is a rubbery seal on the outside along very top of U channel that is delicate and easily damaged. But I see it is useful to keep water out which would corrode metal doors. Trapped water is such a concern that I would not install these on doors not completely out of the rainfall. One is working fine after a month. The one on the tight threshold tore a seal fin off within a few weeks. But still three were working. I needed to temporarily seal an inside door with wide gap. So I stole this failing one to do that. Worked great as looser fit and adjustable height. The U channel had damaged the metal door paint badly. Now I believe the previous owner repainted the door and probably with not the best paint. But it is something to consider and all the more reason to install very very carefully. Product has its place but would not use on a tight fit again.

This U-shaped door bottom weatherstripping seal product is made well. It is made in the USA with globally sourced materials. It is a bit difficult to slip on the door bottom when the door is attached to its hinges, but it can be done by starting with the top of the U-shape and don't push it upwards to the door bottom until you slip it inward as far as you can by hand, then using a mallet the remainder of the product can be set flush to the door edge. The instructions state to use a hacksaw to measure and cutoff any excess product but this is not a good instruction because a hacksaw can result in the end of the product not being cut square to the door edge and then leave a gap at the edge of the door. PRODUCT SUGGESTION TO THE MANUFACTURER: SINCE A STANDARD DOOR WIDTH FROM EDGE TO EDGE CAN TYPICALLY RANGE FROM 36 IN., TO 35 7/8 IN. (35.875), TO 35 3/4 IN. (35.75), IT WOULD BE MUCH BETTER IF THE PRODUCT WAS FACTORY PRE-CUT TO FIT THESE THREE (3) POPULAR DOOR WIDTH SIZES. THEN THE BUYER CAN MEASURE THE DOOR WIDTH AND ORDER THE BEST SIZE TO FIT THE DOOR. BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH USING A HACKSAW TO HAND CUT A UNIFORM SQUARE CUT IN THE PRODUCT TO PROPERLY FIT THE PRODUCT FLUSH TO THE DOOR EDGE, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE THE SKILL TO MAKE A STRAIGHT CLEAN CUT.

So easy - slides on to bottom of door (Use a hammer to tap it along, into place). It was a little too long - Instructions recommend trimming with saw, but I managed to use a kitchen knife to make a groove, and then I twisted off the extra plastic with a wrench. Just be innovative! Now door closes perfectly and no gap under the door. Once I took off my old door stop piece to replace with this new one, I saw why there was a gap - the old one had all the vinyl flaps worn off. Seems we need to replace every 3 years or so. Worth it for 20$ and so easy! This one has lots of vinyl flaps to keep the cold out.

Excellent product! Easy to cut to the length size-was able to do the both double doors and just looks incredible. I may have to order more. Thank you!

Altamente recomendado. La pieza llega de un tamaño estándar a lo largo en el que se puede ajustar al tamaño de la puerta donde se desea colocar. Es fácil de cortar a la medida deseada y, una vez colocada en la puerta hace un cierre hermético que no permite el paso del polvo. La instalación en la puerta es superior sencillo.

Es muy bueno no entra ni el agua ni los bichos. Desafortunadamente con el uso se le están cayendo las bandas internas. Mira la foto.
