Ditch the Stock Market Game, Learn How to Get Safety and Returns in Bond Investing Of all the opportunities to invest and make money, bond investing is likely one of the most neglected. Stocks are the get-rich investment, hyped by Wall Street and favored by investors. Commodities are widely used to hedge risk and to gamble on price changes. Even real estate is more widely held for its cash flow and other benefits. According to research by fund manager Vanguard, the average investor holds just 15% of their portfolio in bonds. Since older investors typically hold much more of their investments in fixed-income, it's safe to assume that many younger investors are neglecting bond investment all together. What you might not realize is that bonds are critical to reaching your financial goals. No other investment provides the kind of safety and security you'll get from bonds and few other investments provide the kind of cash flow you'll get from these fixed-income opportunities. Excellent foundation book for the an investor looking to incorporate bonds in their portfolio
Really great book. Nicely written and full of useful info for an investor looking to incorporate bonds into their portfolio. One minor criticism (and I really mean minor) is that I would have loved to have seen more depth on bond funds. But overall I found this a fantastic read and I look forward to hearing more of the authorโs insights in his other books.

Easy to understand
I have been following Lets Talk Money on YouTube and The Daily Bow Tie email and now just read Step by Step Bond Investing. Joseph Hogue shares his wonderful easy to understand knowledge of investing in a realistically informative, down to earth way which is thoroughly enjoyable and addictive. Books are the basics and YouTube keeps his information current. Highly recommend. Thank you Joseph for sharing and do please keep up the good work.

Really good
The guy knows what he's talking about and it's a really good book that answers most questions. The only thing left for me to figure out is how bond funds work in various market situations including bond index funds.
User
Informative but expensive for the amount of information provided
Disliked that the author has broken down the topic into several books and so whilst a good introduction and well explained I felt a little cheated at the price

All you need to know about bonds - for the rest of us
Wanting to know and possibly delve into bond investing for diversity, I looked into and purchased "Step by Step Bond Investing: A Beginner's Guide". Compared to longer and more detailed books I looked at, this one gave me all the information I needed quickly and in comprehensive way. All the basics covered. The short (60 page) book exceeded my expectations. Honestly I thought it would be wasted effort. NOT!Joseph Hogue pulled it off. He writes clearly and to the point. As I read with much enjoyment I worried that something would be left out before reaching page 60. Not the case. All the components of bond investing were covered in a simple and easy to understand manner. Other tutorials cover the exact same components but add a lot of additional details and that reflects on their higher page count. I appreciate having lots of details but first I need to see if I even want to consider bond investing without becoming an expert. This lean book is efficient, to the point and tells the casual reader all they need to know about the world of bond investing. After reading 60 pages you will know if bonds are for you. Either way you will know a lot about bonds.

Great book for beginners
I've spent a lot of time learning about stocks, but bonds always seemed a little more confusing. This book was the perfect one to start with as it was in very simple language and explained all the topics really well. If you are a beginner and want to get more familiar with bonds, this book is definitely a great start!
