Mxl Industries Untreated Flip Shield

Ratcheting hinge,snaps that can slide to adjust the fit to your helmet,the tint is not too dark,nice so far.At the top,center of the shield frame,it sticks out around 2 inches,which leaves it 1 inch from the tip of my nose.There is a lot of play in the snaps that let the shield bounce and rattle at speed.This shield is like the rest of the snap on kind in that they are around 1 inch too short(top to bottom).I put super glue on the center snap at it's lowest position,and a drop on each of the outter snaps,then took the shield off and ran super glue around the edges of all 3 snaps to keep them where they fit best.The shield also rubs against my brand new 3/4 helmet,so I had to put ""stick-on felt pads on the edge of the helmet where the shield touches to keep it from putting anymore scratches on my helmet.This shield doesn't stop all of the wind,but it sure cuts it down to a more tolerable level.

Really pleased with this product. Here are some observations:- The Snaps are a bit tight, but with some persistence they will snap on to the helmet. - The outer snaps slide to enable you to fit it to a helmet.- The ratcheting mechanism is a bit abrupt, but I'm sure that will smooth out with use.- The closed position does have a distinct snap to it, which should help with any possible lifting that might occur while riding.- The visor seems mostly distortion-free, although I did notice a slight waviness near the top.Note that these are all not complaints just minor observations.- The smoke color seems very good, not too dark, not too light.- There's a bit of a textured finish to the solid shade portion of the visor which is nice. - And the price just can't be beat.All in all the five stars that I rate it reflect my honest appreciation. I'd buy it again if I needed another.

The MXL Flip Shield, smoke colour, "untreated," is designed to fit a ***standard*** 3 snap helmet now called "retro." When I started riding the 3/4 or Open Face helmet was the norm and thankfully Amazon sells a Core brand Open Face helmet for $35. It's a great bargain, a very nice piece of protective gear. This shield makes a nice addition. Oddly the shield description omits one key feature - UV protection. While awaiting delivery I called MXL Industries to ask. An engineer there told me that the shield blocks "up to 380 nm" of UV Rays (nm is short for nanometers, UV rays range from 10nm to 400nm). Apparently that is very good protection, the current standard, according to the Review of Optometry. When the shield arrived this feature was clearly and prominently printed on the shrinkwrap. This shield is a pretty amazing bargain. Highly recommended. Amazon might want to add the UV rating to the description - it is yet another selling point.

This works great for the price . It does still fog up a bit when stopped , so I just raise it at stoplights . If you’re debating on wether you can wear this at night I would suggest that you don’t. It’s dark enough to not wear sunglasses . I do wear prescription glasses and they don’t fog up at all using this. At night especially if it’s raining , I’d say it’s pretty dangerous and would recommend the clear instead of tinted . Great for day riding though. Also it comes down mid chin so no beard coverage if you’re a guy with a longer beard

When fully closed sits right on my face with no space at all. Bottom edge rubs against my chin which is incredibly uncomfortable. Has racheting open and closed so seems like turning head at highway speeds wouldn't be an issue but unfortunately will clean and return.

My first visor came scratched out of the box, and I would blame this on the lack of packaging and no protection on the actual plastic part. Second one had a minor scratch but it wasn't in my direct line of sight so its ok.This one stays firmly attached to my helmet even at 35 MPH, doesn't affect my peripheral vision, and is glasses friendly! I love that it has a clear snap when its fully down which adds to the confidence level.Inspect very carefully, because although I love the product, the packaging is ridiculously bad.

This face shield is hands down more convenient than goggles, but does have some compromises. The advantage is it adapts your current helmet into a face shielded helmet without the expense. The disadvantage is that it does not extend down the face as far as a normal face shield might on a helmet with one built in. The wind does still get into your eyes at 25mph+, so you do need to tilt your head down a bit to see without your eyes watering.

this works about the way I expected it to when I put it on my 3/4 helmet. The thing I didn't anticipate, perhaps, is how much it blocks the wind. My helmet has no venting built in, and with this visor, the only air I get is around the neck and chin. On hot days, that can be uncomfortable. But it is a decent shield, and I will use it occasionally.
