I was curious about this manga for a while and when I finally read it, I must admit it really surprised me in a very nice way. The story was great and was moving at a good pace, not to mention the ending left you wanting to read the next volume ASAP. For this reason I would recommend anyone wanting to check this manga up for the first time, to try getting at least the first three volume because you're going to want to know what would happen next a soon as you finish reading one volume.

Ajin: Demi-Human vol. 1 review. (Edited)
Ajin: Demi-Human is a story that follows a character named Kei. Very early on we learn there are beings called demi-humans who are believed to be immortal regardless of what injuries they sustain, so far 46 or so have been discovered. Mankind don't appear to know much about demi-humans besides the fact they can't die. Demi-Humans are looked down upon and seen as freaks and beneath them in a sense but because of their abilities, scientist and others wish to capture and research these being to learn more about them by 'experimenting' on them. Our main character Kei is involved in a terrible accident and discovers he himself is a demi-human he flees to avoid capture but wonders what to do next and if there is anyone he can trust. Upon discovering there is a new demi-human who has been discovered everyone is on alert and on a manhunt to find him and turn him into the authorities. Kei with his new knowledge about what he is makes him wonder what caused this and if there is any place for asylum. For starters I'm pretty new to manga. Almost finished Death Note, I've read some Tokyo Ghoul some Attack on Titan and the first volume of One Punch Man, so hopefully you forgive me but I'm getting more into it.This is my first experience with Ajin, I read this manga not knowing anything about the universe or story around it. It wasn't too bad either as I finished it in around 2 hours in 2 separate sittings. Upon first inspection of the manga it is very visually appealing and what surprised me is how thin the manga itself is. Despite being 226 or so pages the manga is maybe half an inch or just over half an inch thick which I like very much or i just may not be as familiar with mangas. Being thin benefits me as now when i get future volumes I wont be worried about shelf space and being thin makes them easier for taking it on the go. One thing personally I didnt like is the first page of the manga is in color then it goes to traditional black and white which is fine but I'm slightly nit picky and would've liked the whole thing being black and white, but hey its no big deal and comes to personal preference. Despite being so thin the paper quality is nice, didn't really notice any bleed through on the pages and the art style of the manga is appealing, to me atleast. The story starts very quickly and doesnt give much background on the characters before the plot begins which is different from what ive seen in other mangas/animes, but again could be my lack of experience. One thing I really did like was the fact theres no flashy promotion of other mangas at all in this manga which is a big plus for me since its all Ajin and nothing else. The manga itself left me wanting to know more about the universe and the characters and it will be a series I will keep reading. I've seen other reviews mention that characters are introduced suddenly and the changes between scenes which there are a few times, one instance there was a cut from what was happening to someone else for a page or so then back to the action. I'm not sure if its really a big deal since everyone likes different things but I could see how that might break immersion for someone. The story builds and builds on itself and really doesnt have much down time and in my opinion it is well paced. Ajin: Demi-Human is a series I am glad I picked up and urge you to give a try and pick up the first and second volume as I have.Hopefully I will be giving a review for Vol. 2 in the near future. I hope you found this review helpful.Edit: after finishing reading volume 2 then going back to vol 1 made me like the story even more. If you are considering picking up Ajin I would highly suggest doing so.

Great intro
This is a great manga so far the only problem is it throw scenarios and characters in at random times and you don't understand why, you probably find out as you carry on but still it's confusing at times.Definitely worth it though!!

Wondeful new horror manga
This review will not include any spoilers.Being relatively new to manga I had to take a few shots in the dark to figure out what series I would follow. This is one of the series that I'm so happy I purchased! All avoid describing what the story is since you can read the description easily enough. Instead I'll tell you what my Impressions were of the overall story.Early on this manga reached out and grabbed my attention and managed to hold it throughout the entire first volume. There is a very clear story laid out straight from the get go, and things move fast. I hope you're not looking for a relaxing story because this one definitely moves fast and keeps you on your toes. I thought the story was very clearly explained while still leaving some things to future volumes. One thing that did bother me was how cold and heartless they portrayed most people in the manga. I suppose people can be that way it just felt a little over-the-top sometimes. The art itself is very well rendered, making good use of black and white to leave the pages at just the right shade. Sometimes mangas can get a little too dark and it makes it hard to follow what's happening in each panel. I never had that issue with Ajin, and I could always clearly tell what was going on even during some intense action sequences! There were some awesome action panels so but I hope you don't mind stylized violence because there is a lot of it.Overall I gave this manga 5 stars. I found the story fresh and exciting and it was backed up with clear and direct art.Warning: I wouldn't recommend this for anyone under the age of 15 or 16. While not being exactly gory it is very violent and there are some extended torture scenes.

Guter Auftakt
