Mad Men - Seasons 1-4 [DVD]

How do you make Mad Men even better? Put it in this boxset packaging. I'm not going to review the actual seasons except to say they are all 5 star and quite possibly my favourite tv of all time. I want to describe the boxset packaging a bit because all you get here is a photo of the outer sleeve and when looking for better product info/photos before buying I couldn't find any. Of course it's about the actual episodes but if a thing can be beautiful as well it's even better. I was in two minds over what multi-season boxset to go for or whether to rebuy the single seasons (I lent mine to a friend but then decided Mad Men should stay with anyone who loves it) and had long been drawn to this because of the cover art, so opted for buying this and S5 separately. I wanted the same picture discs as in the original single season boxsets I'd had, and they are the same. The slip cover lifts off revealing another 4" high slip cover that the seasons sit in. The seasons themselves are presented in a book type layout featuring hard plastic hinged 'pages' which are easy to flip through and well organised. Each season begins with card cover art on the left 'page' which is identical to the cover art for the original single season boxset. Each season also has a sumptuous colour image of one of the characters underneath the discs. The front cover of the boxset features the same posterised image of Don and the back features a b/w photo of Don smoking - I'd put money on Matthew Weiner having based Don's image just a little bit on Alain Delon. This is the most beautiful boxset I have ever encountered, it's perfect both visually and for functionality. Standout artwork and design.

The whole thing centres on the complicated life of Ad man Don Draper. Without ruining the plot for anyone, his life goes up and down. His marriage has issues. His prfessional career hangs by a thread. Is he a genius or an opportunist idiot with a good trun of phrase? His professional realtionships are complicated too. We get sveral other characters back stories too an they are all wonderfully written and acted. I also single Christina Hendricks out for your attention. This show never ever let me down. I bought series 5 and 6 straight after watching this back to back and was bereft at having to wait for series 7 (the very final season) to start on TV. I can recommend this to anyone who loved programmes like The West Wing and House.

Having read a very recent review of a few weeks ago stating that the reviewer had received faulty DVDs with score marks on them twice! I ordered the Mad Men Boxset Series 1-4 with trepidation. It has come today from Amazon and I checked the discs immediately I am writing this review to put anyone out there wanting to order and is worried like me to place an order. The packing was superb from Amazon.co.uk and the case containing the DVDs is extremely nice. All the DVDs are absolutely perfect and pristine. So dont worry in placing your order as I did; make sure you order from Amazon as they can always be trusted in my honest opinion. Looking forward now to watching this series.

An enthralling portrait of the society in the 60s, especially in the world of advertising, where men were rarely faithful, smoked and drunk at work and women were rarely (well more like never) as considered as them professionally.Although I can't agree with even 1% of their behaviour the characters are deeper than you think at first and the relationships evolve more than you could imagine.Centered around Don Draper, a mysterious and tortured man, the stories are enriched by many very interesting 2nd characters such as Peggy whose ambition is amazing or Peter the typical sales guy.

Not sure how we missed these first time around but we're enjoying binge watching.

Saw trailers for Season 5 on Sky, and something clicked, so I bought this box-set. I'm now completed addicted! Some of the first few episodes are slow-burners, but they help to build up your perception of the individual characters, so are worth persevering with. Certainly the best series to have come out of the U.S. for a very long time, and if you entered the workplace in the 60's or 70's, this will really resonate.

This series is exceptionally well-observed, bringing an uncomfortably bright light to bear upon upon not only the advertising business but also how women were treated in the work place and in society in general in the 1960s. High quality writing, acting, directing and set designing. Richly deserves all the awards it has received.
