Tilly and the Buttons: Stretch!: Make Yourself Comfortable Sewing with Knit Fabrics

This book is fantastic. Lots of useful information easy to follow instructions and lovely patterns to practise with, the difficulties of stretch fabrics all solved with your ordinary sewing machine. Very good value for money. Only criticism that is not spiral bound as advertised. Would highly recommend to both new and accomplished sewers alike.

About 1/4 of the book is dedicated to helping you understand stretch fabrics and your sewing machine, to get the best results. The remainder of the book incorporates further techniques, tips and valuable gems of information on sewing and working with different stretch fabrics, as part of making up the garments, for which patterns are provided. There's a range of patterns and you're sure to find something you like, or if you're confident enough, something you can adapt to your style. I've been sewing for many years and steered clear of stretch fabrics, but Tilly's book has given me the confidence to give it a go and I'm optimistic about the results! The only thing to beware is that, although you can achieve results with your standard sewing machine and minimum of a zigzag stitch, it does seem for very stretchy fabrics it's necessary to buy a walking foot.

This is a great book for stretch fabric beginners. Nice patterns, great instructions, pyjamas are great. Though you have to trace the pattern you want. I got a roll of grease proof which does the job. I’m a fan.

I have had this book for a while now and I cannot fault it. All the patterns work great as they are and can be hacked to even more. I have used the hoodie and a jumper/jumper dress & hoodie with and without pocket. definitely value for money and perfect for beginners, sewing with jersey isn't even that hard The instructions are amazing, even if you have never seen before you would be fine with this book. Can't go wrong Full size paper patterns with loads of variations

This is a fabulous book. Tillys patterns are fabulous and so, so easy to follow. Really good for an improving beginner like me. For those complaining about tracing the patterns... it's really not that hard! 4 stars though - the book that was delivered to me had some kind of mug stains on the front which came off with a wipe... I didn't order a second hand book but it seems as if that's what Amazon has sent to me.

A brilliant book! Always thought Tilly patterns too young for me but I’ve made all the projects in the book, including so many Frankie t shirts I’ve lost count, and love them all. Has brought my sewing skills up by several notches as well as giving me lots of clothes I actually wear. It teaches you the basics and before you know it you’re altering and hacking the patterns like a pro! Was really unsure whether this book was a good buy but can’t recommend it enough.

Pleased with book lots of useful tips. The BIG disadvantage there is no QR code so you can get PDF patterns. The patterns are printed on both sides of paper so you can not cut out without losing other pattern on other side. I do not like tracing so would love to get pdf.

Got this for £12.99, it looks brand new though it states used. It was delivered within 24 hours. The book was worth buying for the advice on how to use a serger (overlocked) alone. Lots of advice, super easy to read instructions for the pattens (included) and lots of examples of how you could change the pattens to give the clothes a different look. Worth every penny!

Why do the patterns only go up to a size 8? Arghh. Very disappointed as now I have to grade up the patterns.

Adorei o livro,os modelos disponíveis tem um toque retrô sem parecer fantasia. As explicações são fáceis de entender e tem fotos muito boas que mostram o que deve ser feito de perto. A folha de moldes tem normalmente uma peça de roupa por face então fica bem fácil transferir para o papel e depois cortar. O livro parece um curso de costura porque a cada modelo vc aprende técnicas que vai precisar para o modelo seguinte e se vc não gostar muito do modelo apresentado ela ensina passos simples para customizar cada um. Dá pra ir no site da Tilly e ver quais modelos estão presentes no livro, infelizmente ele está todo em inglês e acho q não dá para usar o livro sem saber o idioma. O livro é incrível e vale a muito a pena.

I gave a five star rating even though I haven't yet made anything using this book! I am an intermediate sewist and this book contains a lot of really good information for everybody. This book is well written; in fact Tilly takes you through each project with lots of suggestions for personalizing. The patterns are included and can be traced onto tracing paper for customizable sizing. These multi-sized patterns are actually wearable and hackable. One could make an entire wardrobe for each season with the included patterns. The book itself has nice heavy pages and a flexible binding. I am so excited for my first me made outfit!
