Rod Machado's Private Pilot Handbook (Second Edition, Hardbound)

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for a friend who is really enjoying it. Mr. Machado has taken the time to look at his subject from a reader's perspective realizing the challenge of feeling like one is "drinking from a fire hydrant". To address this challenge, he writes in a straight forward manner and uses humor to help the reader be able to retain the wealth of information included within the book's pages. Also, English is a second language for my friend and the book has been written clearly and in a straight forward manner even ESL readers can benefit from. Mr Machado suggests you check for the latest version so he also covers the bases in terms of making sure his information is current and up to date. Anyone who is interested in earning a pilots license would be interested in checking out this book and all the other materials he has created.

The content is complete and presented in a professional and entertaining manner. That alone is worth the price; but the book itself is also a work of art. It is filled with original full color charts and illustrations. Detailed references between the study guide and this book are by page number, column, and paragraph. Well thought out and executed. It is rare to find a book with this level of academic excellence and presentation quality in every way. Even the paper is premium stock. Don't think twice about this one. It is a tremendous value. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent book. It is easy to read, with a lot of illustrations and examples. I am a student pilot studying to take my practical exam and this book appears to contain all of the information needed to pass the oral portion of the exam. All of the information in one place, I like that.

I've been really enjoying Machado's Private Pilot Handbook since the day I first opened the cover. This is a deep exploration of aviation without being overwhelming. Machado's style is easy to read, and he layers his descriptions with approachable examples, real world scenarios and humor. In short, this book does not read like stereo instructions. Of the few pilots I know, they do consider this a required resource for learning to become a Private Pilot.

what I need.

Brevity is the soul of wit, and perhaps the author missed the mark a tad in this regard. Nevertheless, the book is an excellent source of pilot information and will get the job done. Graphics are the best, unlike some of the "humor".
