Mini Moonshadow Fountain: Water Wanders
Mini Moonshadow Fountain from Water Wonders(Or, "Water Wanders" as the case may be....)Seeking tranquility? Shop for another item, perhaps. I returned this one, for the reasons outlined below.I should note that Amazon accepted the return and refunded the price of the purchase promptly upon receiving the prepaid return shipment. This product's "Instruction Manual" begins with "Tools Required: No Tools Necessary." I might suggest that "Tools Required" include the patience of Job, paper towels, packing tape for return boxing, and an extensive vocabulary of profanity....The Assembly Manual:1. The front page illustrates fairly accurately the parts which are shipped with the unit, (including an 8" diameter piece of slate and a bag of rocks.) NOTE: if you don't have Amazon Prime, this is, as a consequence, a heavy item!)2. Page two of the manual illustrates the "water disperser / rock dish" from an earlier model, apparently. Figure 3B, 3C and 3D show a unit with only two holes, whereas page one shows accurately, the seven holes in the dish. This difference will make a difference, should you decide to accept this mission......otherwise, this review will self-destruct in 30 seconds....3. "...make sure that the pump is preset to its lowest setting [by sliding the control to the left approximately 1/4"] ...." Mine was NOT; how hard is that for underpaid children in China to do??!The Experience / Musings:After finally figuring out how to orient the notch on the rock-dish support, and installing the pump, light, and etc., I realized that the main base was rocking back and forth. Stripped everything down. Attached several self-stick bumpers to the base. Succeeded in stabilizing the 12" diameter metal dish.Wrestled the assembly into the best two falls out of three... Filled main dish with water and plugged it in. Eureka! Water!!!.... Flowing through the slate's support tube! ... Through FOUR of the SEVEN holes in the lovely curved support (Holes # 1, 2, 3, and 7, to be precise).Poked at unresponsive holes; No Joy. Noticed that #7 at the end was running to the tip of the unit. Poked it. #7 began tentative flow over the slate.NOTE TO SELF: The included light GLARES! Make sure it's oriented toward the BACK if you decide to keep this overpriced, poorly engineered item.Leaned back and sought tranquility, but found it elusive, given the noise from the pump which was frighteningly reminiscent of the sound of a dentist's drill....Nevertheless, I let it run for a while, whereupon the #7 hole again began to send the flow to the tip of the support tube, and water began to flow onto the table top.MORAL: If you want something that will indiscriminately wet all over things and make annoying noises, adopt a puppy!

Overpriced, but I am enjoying it.
Pretty speedy to install. Lovely sound. Some people complained about the pump noise, but I don't hear it over the trickling water. The slate, as to be expected is always going to be somewhat unique. Mine came with a slight ridge on the top right of the side I have facing out, and as a result, I can't quite position the water trickles to ensure the slate is completely covered in water when the pump is working. It doesn't really bother me, but I do notice it since there's a little section of slate that remains dry. The light effect is clever (better than I expected). The whole fountain is a little smaller than I would have liked since I have chosen to place it in a large living space, I am thinking I might not feel this way if it were in a smaller room, like a bedroom. The bowls are a little "cheap" in terms of quality considering the overall price was not. It would have been nice if they had been made of copper, rather than a painted metal, but once you set the fountain up in its resting place, it looks good. Some people also mentioned that the fountain has to be stopped by unplugging it. Since I knew this when I bought it, I can only agree that it's not as nice as if it had an on/off switch but it wasn't a show stopper. Of course it does mean you have to place it near a socket that's handy to unplug from!

Nice design - poor construction
I like the design as a free standing table-top feature, the sound profile is right. While the assembly is straight-forward, it's construction leaves things to be desired. It's typical for small businesses. In the unit I received the pump was too high for the height of the collar supporting the inner pan. So I had to fiddle for 30 minutes and eventually cut two small pieces of tile as extra spacers. They probably shipped it with a different pump than they originally designed it with not noticing the difference in height. Something that wouldn't escape a real Q&A department, but gets lost in a small operation. The light is a nice touch, though I'm not sure what the process will be once the bulb burns out?Probably wouldn't buy it again, but it's not bad enough to return now that I have it.

My second one!
I bought one of these for my office about 10 years ago and it finally hit the point where I wanted a new one. The aesthetic is so perfect I ordered the exact same model! The new one has a better coating on the copper, better motor, better construction, better water flow in general. i found it a bit less "drippy" than the old one as the new tray that holds the rocks is now perforated and water flows through. That caused less drip sound and all I could hear was motor hum. This was rectified by placing the old tray under the new tray which caused water to build up and as it spilled over the edge the sound was much better. I like the new light! This is a really well designed timeless water feature. Patients in my practice often choose to sit near it for the zen-like relaxation it provides. Thanks for a great addition to my workday!

Disappointing quality for the money
We had seen this Moonshadow Fountain at a friend's home and enjoyed it very much. However, upon obtaining our own personal unit, we were very disappointed in the quality. The water pump is extremely noisy, no matter if using either the high or low setting. This is unacceptable in a bedroom sleeping situation. The unit comes with a small light bulb which never worked as the water tight casing was cracked and allowed water into the light bulb socket. The unit is made of cheap tin and not copper. For the $100.00 price tag we were very disappointed and have requested a refund.
