Viking Designs (Dover Pictorial Archive)

Exceptional for the price. This is a very good reference selection for artists and even scholars, given the incredibly fair cost. I actually expected less period information, but every single design is identified by location, with frequent identification of year range as well. The design renderings are also quite good, given the price.For anyone with even a passing interest in Norse and Viking artistry, this is an absolute steal. Yes, it is a graphic reproduction of more intricate metal and stone work, but for a $9 copy of those designs, this is beyond satisfactory. Highly recommended.

The book itself is awesome and I give it 5 stars. Chock full of legit authentic Viking designs. However the book itself arrived with a big fat crease on the back AND front cover and was obviously mishandled by a careless employee. It should have been packaged in cardboard instead of a plastic bag seeing as how flimsy and fragile the book is

I am happy with the book, it has a lot of different designs. I was only disappointed that the pictures weren't actual pictures, more copies of the actual item they were describing. But it tells you what part of Scandinavia the pieces come from although some of them I couldn't find on a map. Thank you!

Would like to see a more expanded volume of art from the period, but this has some good stuff

This book contains a number of interesting designs and the author deserves credit for noting their sources. However, what you get looks to my eye like mediocre freehand copies of the original designs which were not done by a highly skilled illustrator. Details tend to be rough and poorly defined. I did not find many useful items and despite the low price, the book is not a good value.

This was perfect for our grandson who loves to study Vikings. We were enjoying it as well, as it's fascinating!

I am interested in the dark ages there is so much to learn and this book shows how intricate and dynamic there work was and luckily the art has been saved and shown in this book fantastic.

If you're interested in sourcing Viking designs, this is an excellent book. All Dover Design Library books have a multitude of ideas and designs - royalty and copyright free - for artists to draw on. So it was exactly what I needed.

Nice designs and easy to read and look at. Came in good condition and time.

I have more research to do to discover if the designs have meanings, but oh my what lovely examples there are in this book. Glad I bought it.
