works great
Pond with Koi and goldfish and filters alone would not control algae. bought this along with a submerged to add to underwater filter. Between the two, while having to clean the filters every other day they are keeping the pond crystal clear. Guessing that they are doing such a great job keeping lilies from growing, don't have to worry about them taking over the pond. Extreme worthwhile investment and btw easy to clean.

It works!
I have a small outdoor fishpond that I use the FishMate to keep the water in the pond clean, clear and circulating. A weekly rinsing of the flat mesh filter in pond water is all I have needed to keep the system operating. The UV lamp is an important addition to the filter system and when it works, you can really notice the improvement in water clarity. Unfortunately, this is the part of the FishMate that is most prone to issues. After 2 years, when starting up the system in the spring, the lamp no longer lit. Replacing the lamp, as recommended, did not help so I am assuming that I have an electrical problem with no easy solution since the lamp assembly is not available as a replacement part. Too bad!

working great for my 240 gallon deck pond
my water turned green. My existing pump had a UV lamp but, after I replaced the lamp 3 times in a week, I found this one. I hooked it up 2 weeks ago and the water started clearing up in a couple days. I like the fact you can easily check to see if the lamp is still working.

Clear water
This is my second Fish Mate and it too works like a champ. The water in the pool was very unclear and full of algae. We did drain it and took everything out but the new water was still pretty bad. It said it would take about a month to really clear up. By the next day it was already much clearer. It is been several week and I can now see the bottom. The pool looks great and my water lilies are flourishing. It is very easy to hook up. You do need a pump and a hose to hook up to the Fish Mate and pump. I already had it since we had one working before. If you don't mind having the Fish Mate sitting out on a flat surface, I highly recommend it. The price is right and it works.

UV failed after 7 days ...back it goes
Well it was fun while it lasted. Setup was not too traumatic, I had to use a clamp to attach pump hose to input valve, but it all worked well and within a few days we could see fish below the surface of our 350 gallon pond & things were proceeding nicely. Then I noticed that there was no improvement. I changed filters every day but all clearing of algae stopped. So after dusk I went out and lifted box lid. No UV light. Readjusting box, unplugging, etc., nothing worked. The light was dead just as other Amazon customers have reported. Out of 28 reviews, 5 have reported UV failing within a week or two. That's nearly 20%. Something is seriously wrong with quality control or design. I hope the company takes notice. I decided to purchase another brand, the PondMaster which has no complaints about failing UV lights.

Did the job in about 5 days
Made a big mistake early in the season and last year when I began swapping out my foam pre-filter. Killed all the good bacteria process that was established and ended up with green water. The Fish Mate 500 GUV madena huge difference. I also added blue die designed for ponds to block the sun. No more algae in about 5 days. Perfect fit for my pond size, about 200 gallons. It didn't come with hoses, so that was the only challenge to plumb it in with my existing pump. Ace hardware's washing machine hose fit the outlets perfectly!

Algae be gone
So our pump fountain decided that this year was it last we were constantly fighting algae clean the filter every day was not keeping up. I saw this reasonably priced it's not the most ideal but it offered something more a light to kill algae which was a big problem in our small pond. In 2 days we could see our fish and our frog. By the end of the week the pond was clear we still have algae on the sides but some algae is better than none let's you know your pond is healthy. I would recommend this over the pond fountain filter. Of course we have a small pond but if you have a large pond go bigger.
