Violinist, singer, and composer Kishi Bashi presents 2014 album. Entitled Lighght (pronounced "Light"), the album continues and expands the sound of his critically acclaimed debut, 151a - which earned Kishi Bashi the title of "Best New Artist" by NPR. Since the profoundly successful release of 151a, Kishi Bashi toured relentlessly, captivating audiences across the globe with his loop-based live show, and fostering a groundswell of devotees.

Riding the Lighght
K Ishibashi's follow up album Lighght is a brilliant and unique listening experience to say the least. Each track is catchy and easy to get into, with some that pull at the heart and others that just make you want to dance. Along with pulsing beats in tracks like "The Ballad of Mr. Steak" you'll find an interesting blend of sounds that range from Japanese to southern inspired through multiple instruments.I think most people will be drawn in by the album's first single "Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!" but in all honesty, there isn't a single weak track on this album. I'm already on my third time listening through it today and I haven't skipped to any of my favorites, which outside of the previously mentioned single I would consider so far to be "Q&A" and both parts of "Hahaha."Lighght is definitely a contender for album of the year for me. I strongly recommend it to anyone that enjoys music that will put a smile on their face. At least, that's what K Ishibashi's music does for me.

Beautiful Sound!
I first heard Kishi Bashi while driving with my teenage daughter. She played it from her IPOD. I remarked that the music was amazing, and asked her about the artist. From then on, whenever we were together in the car, I made her play Kishi Bashi. And told my kids, all I wanted for Christmas were Kishi Bashi albums. So this Christmas, both of my adult sons gave me Kishi Bashi CDs and that is all I play, I am in love with his music. I am not a music critic, but there is something about this music that lifts the spirit and it is so interesting and multi layered with a voice so pure and lyrical, you never tire of listening to it. That said, I will definitely be purchasing any further albums Kishi Bashi comes out with and promoting his beautiful sound to everyone I know.

I'm no music expert, but I know what I like to hear.
I like this album more than his solo debut titled 151a.K Ishibashi is as whimsical and seemingly improvisational with his lyrics as ever, and it pays off very well, especially in the song "The Ballad of Mr. Steak" when he sings "I believe when a man's in love, he'll do anything he wants, he'll do anything that will come to his mind. And like that Mr. Steak was in love, every minute of his mind, he's steppin left and right cha-cha."My favorite track is the second of the album titled "philosophize in it, chemicalize with it," which was originally a Japanese commercial jingle, but everyone loved it so much that K. was obliged to make a full song out of it, and boy am I glad that happened.

Dancing, but in a Weird Way
Spidery, layered violin loops join a strange combination of influences, which to me sound like Andrew Bird, Passion Pit, and 70s classic rock. Kishi Bashi writes about love in all of its highs and lows, which feels cosmic set to compositions both ethereal and danceable. "Lighght" is a single-word poem by Aram Saroyan; Kishi Bashi's repurposing of this poem spans all of its shimmery translucence across a whole album.

I've seen the Lighght
I ordered this CD shortly after it was previewed on NPR. I had never heard of Kishi Bashi and was very impressed with his talent. His style struck me as being new and fresh, and I have listened to it enthusiastically since I received it. I can't seem to get enough of this CD. Kishi Bashi really rocks on this one!

Wonderful vinyl! I wasn't expecting to get the yellow vinyl and I was greatly satisfied for that. It also contained the mp3 audio with a code to redeem online with two bonus tracks. Kishi Bashi is such an amazing artist and I couldn't ask for a better album than Lighght.
