There can be no biography of him. Facts are few, stories many. He seems to have been known by different names in many parts of India, appearing and disappearing through the years. His western devotees of recent years knew him as Neem Karoli Baba, but mostly as Maharajji - a nickname so commonplace in India that one can often hear a tea vendor addressed thus. Just as he said, he was nobody. The briefest, simplest stories were his teachings. Sometimes he sat in silence . . . but bliss and peace poured down on us.-Anjani In 1967 I met Neem Karoli Baba, a meeting which changed the course of my life. In the depth of his compassion, wisdom, humor, power and love I found human possibility never before imagined.an extraordinary integration of spirit and form. I was with him only briefly, for he left his body in 1973. Still he entered my heart as living truth, and his presence continues to enrich and guide my life .-Ram Dass Review: best book on Maharaji - This book is irreplaceable for those truly interested in learning about the teachings of this great being. Itโs all here, all the contradictions, the love, the rascality, the transcendence, the entertainment, all of it serves to break down our firm grasp on what we think we know and leave empty, to be filled with love and truth and compassion. Review: To each their own - Perhaps like many, I was so struck by Be Here Now, that I absolutely wanted to experience more stuff like that, so I got this. It provides and takes us to a similar environment, but this book is very different. Some of the stuff is way out there and Dass pretty much points to that in the introduction. One needs to seek the finer spiritual undercurrents than the absolute content being narrated. I really enjoyed it and it helped in my journey but it not a dazzler like Be Here..

Ram Ram Ram...
Thank you, Ram Dass and Neem Karoli Baba! This is the best book I've ever read. I will forever hold it dear to my heart and re-read often. It somehow arrived in perfect condition (as I had deeply hoped), despite being packaged inappropriately by Amazon (per usual).

If you're here now, order the book.
I was looking for stories of Neem Karoli Baba and looked at other books first, intimidated by the size of this one. But after finally ordering it, I'm glad I did. It's filled with well organized stories from those followers who spent time with Babaji in the physical form. Through a telling of these stories, you get a sense if your own darshan and also the life of Maharaji. Ram Dass is the person who brought tales of Neem Karoli to the States, so it makes sense that this book is as great as it is. I read it from start to finish, but it can also serve as a daily random page reader. If you happened upon this review and listing, then maybe there's a reason for it. Get this book, open to any page and chances are it'll be exactly what you needed to read at that moment.

Miraculous indeed - One of its kind book
Miraculous indeed. The book is about an Indian Saint Baba Neeb Karori who has inspired so many dignitaries, celebrities (Steve Jobs, Ram Dass, Bhagwan Dass, Julia Roberts, Mark JuckerBerg, Larry Brilliant, Krisha Dass, Jai Uttal and many common people including westerners). You just can not describe this miraculous man. He just like God. All adjectives fall short for him. And you just can't believe this man full of miracles actually has happened so recently that its verifiable by the people who are still alive and taking his light all over the world! His inspirations -> in music Krishna Dass and Jai Uttal (both nominated for Grammy), Book (spiritual guru) -> Ram Dass, Bhagwan Dass and humanity - Larry Brilliant and Ram Dass who opened the most respected charity organization called sewa. So much grace!!!! You will cry many times almost on each page...and by the time you finished the book your might have moved by a mountain to open for the divine love. People love knowledge, achievement but bow to miracles...period!!!!

A Must-Have for Your Spiritual Library
A touching collection of stories about Maharji (Neem Karoli Baba) and his interactions with some of his devotees. If you have ever been touched by him, or wondered about him, this is the original story collection by Ram Dass, and will deeply touch your heart. He was a great Indian saint who never claimed the name of guru or teacher, and yet had followers and devotees all over the world. A book to keep and treasure as a reminder of what an enlightened being can be in the world.

How to define a miracle?
I am having a great time reading the stories collected by Ram Dass about Neem Karoli Baba. I am a student of Vortex Healing which was founded by Ric Weinman who was also a follower of this guru and who regards the work as his seva for Neem Karoli Baba. Ric's book Awakening Through The Veils, A Seeker's Guide, takes the reader, step by step through the mysterious process of awakening. What comes through to Vortex Healing is the great unconditional love from Maharajii: a combination of energy and consciousness which is trully transformative. Both books are well worth reading as is the CD by Krishna Dass, Greatest hits of the Kali Yuga, worth listening to where he has a conversation with Ram Dass about being lost in love. They joke about how their guru has kept them on so that they can continue his work in with West.
