Love It!
Dave Barry is as funny as always. I laughed until I had tears in my eyes. I love reading his books!

Very Funny
All of Barry's books that I have read are funny. Some more than others. This one ranks at the upper end of the scale with me.

funny guide
In this book, Dave Barry discusses finances. First he gives an overview of how the US economy works, then moves onto other topics, such as tips on how to get a job (attach a naked photo of Angelina Jolie to your resume), the drawbacks of HMOs (they cover leeches but not insulin if you're diabetic), how to argue with your spouse about money, starting your own business, how to manage a hedge fund, playing the stock market, cheat on your income taxes, travelling (choose a hotel with cheap toilet paper), and how to plan for your retirement fund.Sprinkled with humorous charts, pictures and photos of Suze Orman and Donald Trump (at whom Barry takes many cheap shots but winds up dedicating the book to them), this book is a must-read for Barry fans.

The funniest book ever
Dave Barry is funny; that's his thing and I always enjoy his work, but this book is his most hilarious. Every page brings at least one guffaw and sometimes tear-inducing laughter that makes me stop and have to compose myself before I can go on. Where does he get this stuff! I have this book on my phone since it's good for reading in brief snatches of time when I'm waiting for something (and keeps me in a good mood through the wait). Try it, you'll love it!

Great Gift
I purchased multiple copies of this book because my husband owns a financial planning practice and I thought it would be a good gift for his employees on Administrative Assistant's Day. Well, it was! The office staff thought it was hilarious. (Hopefully, they're not reading it on company time!) I also purchased a copy for myself, because I have been a fan of Dave Barry for many years. Absolutely worth it, if only for his description of Suzie Ormond. The best part (for me) is that you will learn virtually nothing about anything financial (so my husband doesn't have to worry about any competition). Enjoy!

A hilarious ยจguideยจ to all things money
This book is a hilarious, pop culture-filled, journey through the one topic that binds us whether we have it or not: money. This book includes chapters ranging from travel expenses, to (avoiding) paying for costly education for your children, to the ยจpricelessยจ advice of Donald Trump. Of course as long as he was at it, he included several photos of everyone's favorite other top money guru, Suze Orman.I laughed out loud several times thoughout this book and I had a very hard time putting it down. If you are familiar with Barry's columns or other books, rest assured that once again, he just uses a topic (money in this case) as a common thread to tie together all his witty and poignant views on society, pop culture, and life in general. If you are not familiar with Barry's other work, I highly suggest this book to get you started! It's an easy read, and VERY entertaining

Funny as always
I'm almost always amused by Dave Barry's books. Some of his humor is a bit juvenile but overall his books are generally worth the money. This one was no different and there were several laugh-out-loud sections, particularly when he discussed purchasing a car and his opinion of several cars, including the Aztek (the "Buttmobile"). His vision of the corporate world was also hilarious to me as I was one of the many individuals who suffered when Coca-Cola decided to change its formula; I mean, what were they thinking??? The Suze Orman shtick got a bit old but overall this book was well worth my time.

Thank you, Michelle Singletary
Back in 2006, Michelle Singletary of the Washington Post had a book review in one of Post's Sunday paper. She introduced Dave as a funny man. Thanks to her, I got to know Dave's books which have since enriched my life. All Dave's books are funny but this one still remains my go-to-book to laugh instantly.

Funny in small doses.
Very funny book, but I found it worked best if I read it in small snippets. It's a great book to pick up if you've got 10 or 15 minutes to kill (e.g. waiting in a doctor's office).

Hilarious!
I have bought a few of Dave Barry's books because they are so funny. This one was a gift for our adult daughter's birthday. We sat at the table as she opened her gifts, and she started reading passages of Money Secrets and laughing as she read. We were all laughing, too, and she laughed so hard she cried. Not guaranteed to make everyone cry, but it should make everyone laugh.

Unfortunately nothing to laugh about (for a German)
I once read Dave Barry's Complete Guide to Guys and couldn't stop laughing, literally, like it is announced on the book cover over and over again. On the cover of Money Secrets there are only two quotations judging this book to be "really funny", but normally I don't give that much about critics' opinions, at the end of the day it's all about the own taste, isn't it?However, in my opinion (or taste) even these two citations are two too much: First, this book and the examples given in it are old, which is normally nothing to criticise because the financial industry is changing very quickly during the last couple of years. However, this fact becomes crucial since Dave Barry seems to pick only very concrete examples that might have been funny in the time they took place but are unable to generalize the humor of the financial industry. This, on the other hand, leads to my greatest criticism about this book: He TRIES to be funny through giving "funny" (and very often very simple and obvious) interpretations and examples of some financial mechanisms, instead of revealing the true humor (and that is, the irony or even: perversion) of money that everybody in the world seems to accept. It may be that this type of humor is appreciated in the US but for me, from a European perspective, this book fails. Unfortunately.
