Fantastic Resource
This is a really great textbook, easy to understand and a lot of valuable information in the appendix at the back. (also the textbook we're using while studying Japanese in Kyoto so that can only be a good thing.

Complement to the manual
Bought as a complement for Minna no Nihongo 2nd ver: Bk 1 w/ CD - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/4883196038/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_img_sol_3I haven't used it much since I got it, but it's good to help in the understanding of the actual manual. Not a substitute, though, so I still recommend getting the earlier-referred-to book.

LOVE IT
The media could not be loaded. Translation and Grammar notes came in handy for the workbook ^^. Just an fyi, this book doesn’t have any information or answers for exercises A-C for each lesson. I think those come in a different book.

Very good book and easy to learn
This book is as recommended by the seller, and it is also very useful for those who are learning Japanese on their own. I also suggest everyone to purchase the Renshu (practice) book along with the vocabulary and grammar book. This will make learning even easier.

I recommend if you know how to read katakana and hiragana
I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy it because of many bad reviews here but turns out it wasn't a big deal. The main book for the exercise is in Japanese only (of course like the JLPT) but they give you an example of what to do to each exercise. So in one book (Red - Japanese exercise), you have the text in Japanese, and in the other book (Yellow - Grammar + vocabulary), the translation in whatever your book is translated into. The Japanese exercise book comes with a booklet answer at the end of the book, which is of course in japanese. It's not complicated... And I also self-study.Tho I can't use the CD because I have nothing to play it, it's super easy to find the MP3 on the web. (That's what I'm doing) There's some kanji but with the hiragana above so, it doesn't matter if you can't read kanji. The grammar section it's nice and helps to really understand the meaning of the word/particle. Also, there's in each (25) lesson some useful words and information.
