Van Gogh Watercolor Paint Set, Plastic Pocketbox, 12-Half Pan + 3-Half Pan Bonus General Selection

I got the 12+3 half pan set and it is a killer value. I recently bought a 12 half pan set of student grade watercolors by W&N at my local art supply store for the exact same price as this Van Gogh set. The Van Gogh Comes with 3 bonus pans a superior pallet and the pigments are just as good if not better. seems like a no brainer to me. I love the way the half pans lock into the pallet and the form factor is attractive and fairly compact and I really like that there are 6 separations in the mixing area so that your mixed colors do not contaminate each other. This is the kind of Pallet I would take on a trip or out to do Plein Air painting where working space is limited, so keeping a tidy palette is a plus for me. Lastly, This Palette is a win for me because I typically hate plastic palettes because they are either too bulky or cheaply made. I also dislike tins because the hinges or lids sometimes warp and wont stay closed or they start to rust after the finish wears off. This palette is plastic but it appears to be a very good quality plastic it has a RIC 7 (the little recycling code on most plastics) which indicates "other" so even though I have no idea what kind of plastic it is an RIC 7 is usually used by Nylons Polycarbonate, or even PLA (bioplastics popular in 3d printing). So the good news its made of durable stuff, the bad news is if/when it breaks it cannot be recycled and I am not sure if that is a problem for most people but for me it isn't because I plan to take good care of it and have it last a lifetime of use. I would rather have one good nearly indestructible plastic palette with a good design and favorable ergonomics than a dozen dented and rusted tins that won't stay closed.

I love this set. I love the new pallete rather than the traditional. It is joyful. Don't forget paynes gray and yellow make a fabulous green, and flesh tones are so easy with these colors. Perfect size for travel and plein aire. The paints go on smooth and bright. A win for me.

Great value. Creamy consistency and rich colors. The included brush is a decent all-purpose brush and the pallet is a convenient size. Make sure to reshape the bristles of the brush after washing it, otherwise you won't be able to get the bristles to fit back inside the handle when you try to put the brush away. It has a nice variety of colors that allow me to mix pretty much any shade I need. It has been a joy to use and made it easy to sit down and paint anywhere. Great for beginners or for an experienced artist looking for a travel pallet.

Many "student grade" or "hobby colors" have less pigment in order to be affordable, but these colors do not skimp on the pigment--and use some very good pigments that you'd find in professional colors. I've had GREAT results with these Van Gogh watercolors, which are the student or academic grade of Dutch manufacturer Royal Talens. Rembrandt is their professional line. The Van Gogh colors are decently pigmented (lots of color material, the most expensive component of paints) and mostly use the best pigments and often "single pigment" which are what give the best results. If you are looking for a set of travel colors, Van Gogh has a number of color palettes that may suit yiou, but the 15 color set is about perfect. It takes up no more space and it has deep wells for mixing in the lid. If you are trying watercolor for the first time, I always recommend these because they perform better than most.

This is a nice palette for travelling. It's compact and I like the ample mixing space that the palette has and the brush is a size 6 and is a nice brush, though the handle is plastic. The colors are vibrant and easily activated. They are creamy and go on nicely. I've only used them for swatching, and haven't used them to paint anything yet. The reasons for only 4 stars: 1) The paints are covered with a plastic cover that lists the name of the pigment and the pigment number, but nothing on lightfastness, if that's something you want to know. However, the plastic is very sticky and hard to remove. Some of the paints came out of the pan and stuck to the plastic. 2) The swatch card that comes with the set is not watercolor paper so the colors appeared streaky. I swatched on watercolor paper, and the colors laid down nicely. (see photo) 3) I wanted to re-arrange the pans according to the way I use my colors and found them difficult to remove with the brush handle which bent (fortunately, it didn't snap off). Only a couple of pans came out easily, and for the others I used a palette knife, which bent, then I used a stylus with the smallest point. That worked, but again, it was ruined because the ends bent. Also, the pans don't have the colors on them, so I had to use a Sharpie to write them on the pan. Overall, these are nice paints and I would recommend for travel or plenn air painting.

This is my favorite of all of my watercolor palettes. The paints are high quality and so is the included brush. There is ample space for mixing and blending colors. It’s great for traveling and has a nice variety of colors in a compact amount of space.

I have been using Van Gogh watercolors for years and this little travel box of half pans is my new favorite! The paints- these come I half pans and I find the color selection perfect. They re wet with almost no water and they provide rich highly pigmented results yet still allow lifting and respond well to a variety of techniques. They respond as well as professional paints and seem to be very lightfast. Thankfully they are not individually wrapped and they are easy to accessible and well filled The box- the box holds 15 half pans and I appreciate the attention to details. The mixing tray lifts out to allow easy cleaning. And each pan has a positive click in place so they don’t fall out during travel. They include a swatch paper and a clear cover for shipping which identifies each color. I attached it to the swatch sheet since it was slightly sticky and adhered well. The swatch sheet itself is cold press 300lb paper and fits well under the mixing tray. The top of the box can also be used as an additional mixing tray. The box has a latch for secure closure and it makes great use of a small space. The brush- the brush tucks nicely into the mixing tray and the closed brush is the pry key to remove half pans and the mixing tray. It is surprisingly good quality with a nice spring and a very nice point. It tucks into the handle for protection as you travel

Elegí estas pinturas porque ya había probado antes la marca, a pesar de lo que muchos piensan las cajetillas de los pigmentos son pequeñas pero dan muchísimo de si, ya que se usa con mucha mucha agua, el papel sobre el que lo he probado no es de alto gramaje por lo que puede distorsionar la percepción de los colores y calidad de la pintura. Totalmente recomendable, los colores son perfectos, hay variedad (blanco de china, rosa quinacridona, azul de prusia, tierra sombra tostada, gris payne, amarillo limón perm, rojo permanente claro, azul ultramar oscuro, verde vejiga, gris payne, ocre amarillo, amarillo azo medio, laca granza oscura, verde esmeralda, tierra de siena tostada). El pincel tiene una punta ideal sin embargo es difícil de limpiar y siempre queda con algo de color, pero vamos es uno de iniciación para mezclar un poco los colores, por lo que está bien. Las cajetillas se pueden sacar para cambiar los pigmentos, en la tapadera hay separaciones para mezclar y aguar los colores. Los pigmentos vienen tapados con una pegatina en la que se indica el nombre exacto. Ha venido todo bien empaquetado, el estuche cubierto por etiqueta de cartón y un fino plástico, además del sobre de cartón de amazon, el estuche en muy buen estado, sin rozaduras o abombados y sin exceso de embalaje innecesario. Muy contenta.

Questa scatola di 15 godet Van Gogh è molto conveniente. È vero che i godet sono leggermente meno profondi degli standard, ma contengono comunque una buona quantità di colore e la resa è buona. Sono alle prime armi l'acquerello ma ho preferito utilizzare subito di colori decenti, anche se non di livello professionale. Questi mi sembrano molto buoni, i colori sono vivi, è facile ottenere varianti pastello semplicemente aggiungendo acqua, la maggior parte dei colori di combina bene con risultati positivi. Il prezzo è simile o migliore rispetto ai Cotman, ma credo che questi siano degli stesso livello o forse anche migliori. Lì utilizzerò per un po'. Ho messo un po' di foto della scatola e un paio di fogli fine ho inserito i colori e tutte le combinazioni. Tenete conto che non sono bravo quindi certamente si possono miscelare meglio. In molti casi inoltre, dosando i due colori si ottengono combinazioni molto diverse. C'è insomma molta flessibilità e ho trovato qualche delusione solo miscelando il rosso light ai blu, ma non so se dipende dalla mia scarsa esperienza. Fantastiche invece le tonalità che si ottengono con le combinazioni con il quinacridone. Non c'è nero ma grigio payne, ma preferisco così. Bella secondo me la scelta dei 15 colori. Consigliatissimo!

Colours are quite up to the mark - creamy, pigmented, thick and sticky. Do all the justice to the brand as far as their quality goes. But, on the flip side, there is no sap green, and the other greens are almost identical and not that useful. One has to get one's own shade everytime. Same for two vermilions. Instead, two other pigments could have been added to the pack without losing anything on the variety or quality side. Other flip side to it is smaller box which though add to the lightness of the set, but the colours get stuck to the upper lid. Slightly larger size could have made it more useful.
