Saves small animals
Works as it is supposed to!!!! I witnessed it saving a chipmunk this morning. If you love all animals, this is a must if you have a pool.

Works well with our robotic skimmer
We had been recommended one of these when we first got a pool but I didn’t want to have something sitting on the side of the pool all the time that would have to be moved for vacuuming and skimming. We don’t get a huge amount of frogs/toads in our pool but usually after rain, my husband would have to rescue one or two. We were going to be out of town and since we don’t have a pool cover, I was worried about frogs dying in water that was more chlorinated than normal and rotting in the pool for 7 days. We came home to zero frogs in the pool and while I haven’t ever seen one use it, I have to assume we have the frog log to thank. We do still have to pull out some tiny frogs, but for the most part, our skimmer has stayed amphibian-free. We also have a Betta robotic skimmer and I was worried it was going to get caught up on the frog log, but so far it hasn’t been an issue. Now we only remove it from the pool when we are going to be swimming.

Found a frog on it! Gives you piece of mind!
UPDATE 7/20/2016 I have not had a dead frog in my pool since using this for a year. However, a Frog had babies and now there is 3 or 4 that live on this all day. I also bought the critter skimmer covers (i commented on it after someone asked in the comment section) and between this Froglog and the skimmer cover, Frogs hang out there all day. YES it saves them but it promotes frogs to hang out there all day and now every time i want to go in the pool the frogs get scared jump off the Frog Log or the skimmer cover and dive in the pool. I have to save the with a skimmer each time!! However, i still recommend this product :) ---------------------------------------- I was told about this product from a friend who was having the same issue i had. It works! Makes you feel better about giving frogs or others an option while stuck in the pool. I feel obligated to write these reviews since I read so many of you guys and it helps the decision process :) In my first summer with a pool, I have probably saved and/or retrieved 10+ alive or dead frogs from the pool so I NEEDED this. After a few weeks with it, still found a few dead ones but then miraculously one morning i saw a frog on one...so it works! However, few hours later I found that frog in the water scrambling and couldnt figure out how to get back on the float. I am going to attach a photo of the frog log frog next time I see that picture! PS - quick tip get the skimmer cover with the cyclone downward plastic that goes into your basket. I find many things in my 2 skimmers and that would be a big help to save the ones who arent in the water and cant be saved from the frog log!

BEST!! Honestly... just buy the ORIGINAL from Hydrotools by Swimline
Update September, 2022 -- these held up REALLY WELL in all day, beating Florida sun. It's been about 4 years, it NEVER deflated at.all. One got a little ratty, but the other was just faded -- just ordered new ones. I would NOT order a knock-off of this product. Old Review: Good job on this one! I've owned many pool rescue devices -- this one is the BEST by FAR! I can't even imagine how they manufacture it for this price, but by all means, carry on! I bought one to check it out and bought another immediately. I'll probably buy a third (BIG pool). In my household, we're convinced this was designed by a wife who tired of the swimming pool death trap and harangued her handy husband into designing a better style.* It's super easy to set up and STURDY -- my pool-water-drinking-squirrels have been trying to get up the courage to use it as a drinking platform.** With other styles I've questioned how much weight it would actually hold... a frog yes, a baby bunny... doubt it. I think this one would.*** The best part of the design is it doesn't use too much mesh which traps little junk -- and the mesh part that goes from the water platform to the pool deck is firm with plastic supports you slip inside so the mesh isn't floppy the way it is with other styles -- huge improvement. Total winner -- I hope they make a million dollars on it. * We know theoretically the wife could have designed it, we just don't think that's how it happened. ** I can't help that they drink out of the pool, and no, that tiny bit of chlorine won't kill them. *** Just my opinion, worth about 2 cents.

I no longer have to scoop frogs out of the pool or skimmer basket!
these have worked out perfectly. I spent a long time researching. There has not been a single animal or reptile- not one time – since I put these two out, and before that it was weekly, if not daily. I was getting up in the morning and worrying about what little creature is drowning and running outside to save them every day. Now I no longer have to worry! because of their placement, the one in the open pool area has got caught up in our pool robot cord two times in the last three months. Not a big deal, but the one time we were out of town and the pool robot pulled the little frog log around enough to open the Velcro and the rocks fell out. The solution to this would be to not overfill the pouch with rocks lol. I kind of prefer mine to have as many rocks as possible in order to be a little heavier, so instead of taking the rocks out, I stitched it with a needle and thread, so there's no way for the rocks to fall out again. they didn't even move during a tropical storm. I think it's 100% worth it, but they do block a little bit of the long stemmed Pineneedles that would normally flow into the skim basket. I mean, obviously, you have to put the frog logs in front of the skimmer where the animals are going to get dragged, so this is just a trade off. This doesn't bother me at all – I'd rather take a handful of pineneedles from next to the frog log every once in awhile, then stick my hand in the skimmer basket anyways. really a great product.

Getting the job done
So far there are fewer frogs in the filter. I probably need to get a second one.

Excellent for Ducklings!!!!
WORKS FOR DUCKLINGS!!! I bought two of these because my complex has a mother duck who leads her ducklings into the swimming pool each year, and it was really difficult to get them out!! These Frog Logs worked perfectly and amazingly well! They are well-made and easy to assemble. There is an inflatable bladder at the bottom, which was easy to pump up with a hand pump. It is made from fairly thick material, so it is firm when inflated. The weight at the top has a little plastic baggie inside, and you fill the baggie and then that baggie fits neatly inside the top part. Because it's got that waterproof baggie, you can use kitty litter and not worry about what happens if it gets wet. I am not at all clever about assembly, and I put these together easily in about 5 minutes each. I put the two Frog Logs at the edge of the pool where the mommy duck was most likely to get out, and I put some food around the Frog Logs in the pool and also on top of the Frog Log platform. I used bird seed, but you could also use crumbled crackers or breadcrumbs -- anything that is about the size of half a grain of rice works, and if it floats, that's better. The food attracted them over to the Frog Logs. I also put some food on the concrete in front of the Frog Logs, so mommy would stay there and eat. It still took about a half hour of mommy duck getting out and getting back in and getting out again, before the babies climbed out. They want to follow their mom, so that's why I used the food to attract them to the Frog Logs and then to keep mommy near the Frog Logs when she got out of the pool. Those little ducklings are tiny!! Four days old. But still, they were able to hop on to the Frog Log platform and then climb the netting to get out. Once the first duckling figured it out, it was less than 2 minutes before all twelve were out of the pool. Highly, highly recommended -- this was a big win!!!!

Every pool owner should have one!
Brilliant. I am sure this has saved loads of frogs, because on the rare occasions I have forgotten to put it back in the pool often there was a frog in the pool the next morning. Mine has lasted for years although it has faded significantly over that time. Great product.

Highly recommended! Truly a must-have for every pool owner!
I'll update this review at the end of the summer but so far I haven't found any floaters, so it appears to be working! It really gives me peace of mind knowing they're there- i used to dread checking the pool every morning. I bought two of these. They are super easy to assemble and they are even better quality than I was expecting. Nice size and seems very durable and well made and designed. I'm very happy with my purchase. EDIT: Just wanted to update my review, and yes, I'm just as thrilled with this purchase as I was initially. It really does work! The summer is over, and I've not had a single critter drowning this summer! It's like a miracle. On two mornings it was flipped up (but still in the pool) and I assume it was a larger animal that escaped. We have tons of rabbits, squirrels and skunks in the area. I'm thinking a rabbit likely used it as a launch pad to jump out (with success) and it flipped the pad in the process. I only wish I'd found this product years ago. This is a no-brainer - every pool should have at least one. They've been in the pool day and night and they still look brand new. Awesome product!
