Fabricated City

I have watched a lot of Korean made shows/movies and for the most part they are all good, but this was one of the best I have seen in a long time. It's hard to come up with a "new theme" for a movie, but this one truly has a unique story line. You have multiple themes going on in this movie from crime mystery, drama, a hint of romance and of course action. The action in the movie is all believable and not drenched in the unrealistic flying kick or high jumps that are obviously not humanly possible.To sum the story line, you have a young man played by Chang Wook, who is framed for murder and is sentenced to life in prison, He is of course upset by this and denies all charges, but with the vast evidence placed against him, no one minus his mother believes him. After being in prison for some time he finds out his mother has committed suicide. Chang Wook cannot believe this since his mother had just been talking with him about having a retrial to get him out. So Chang Wook plans an escape plan and manages to get out of prison. He then meets up with his old video game player members and they begin the process of searching for answers to prove Chang Wook's innocence. This of course proves to be difficult since there seems to be an all knowing force that can pull some major strings from behind the scenes. As always, Ji Chang Wook provided an amazing performance. If you are considering what to watch next, look no further since this is the movie will not disappoint.

Interesting story. The step between the bad guy to the full reveal could have used a little more build up to show how it was all connected. Other than that it was an action packed enjoyable ride.

This is one of the best movies made. I say that about a lot of Korean films, for good reason. This has a story from the recesses of imagination. You cannot predict where it's going and yet it hits all the major tropes of an action adventure film but not as you would expect it. I've watched it twice, once at the NYAFF years ago. It is exhilarating, funny, great characters that are far from cookie cutter. The bad guys are bad and bumbling and it comments on the excesses of the powerful without preaching and in the context of a great yarn. Even the moments that push the believable are done with panache and style and are funny and exhilarating as an action movie should be. Many rewind WTF moments, great beginning great end. Hell, great middle and story twists that will twist your face. Read the other reviews for more details but man what a flick.

I've seen Ji Chang-wook in Healer, The K2, and a few other dramas, and I wasn't expecting the level of brutal violence, and the focus on the rape and framing of innocent people, etc. I find bullying and violence toward women and innocent people to be particularly disturbing, so I ended up stopping it. I just couldn't handle how badly he was getting beaten in prison for what he hadn't done. At some point, I might try it again, but I don't know. I'm only docking it one star, because I think if you can handle violence and the abuse of innocents, it might not bother you as much. Knowing Ji Chang-wook's acting from other series and the start of this movie, I know he will make you believe every second of his agony, frustration, and desire to triumph. I just found it too violent and bloody.

I watched this because I enjoyed K2 and Healer and want to see Ji Chang Wook in action film. He did a great job in actions and driving and the intensity and speed of the whole movie is very enticing. You will want to keep watching the whole thing. The only part that I don’t enjoy is the psycho of the real killer... it’s funny how this movie is similar to K2 when he is also framed as fugitive and how Healer also worked with a hacker in the same way Chi Chang Wook did in this film, definitely have some similar story elements. Wish there will be just a slight touch on romance in this film, that would have make the dark side a little bit lighter overall. If you like JCW, watch it (especially he mentioned he didn’t wanna do another action drama for awhile..)

No doubt one of the best Korean productions we've watched. Became a fan of Ji Chang-wook from The K2, and was drawn in by the gamer aspect, but this movie ended up far surpassing our expectations. Had pretty dark themes but the characters were so quirky and well acted that it didn't feel too heavy. It was the perfect mix of action, humor, and damn good storytelling - it had us on the edge of our seat and was a roller coaster of emotions. Definitely a must-watch if you're a fan of Korean productions, and even if you're not! If only there were a way to turn a rental into a purchase... but I will probably still buy it anyway. It was that good!

Is this a perfect story/movie- no, but all in all this is just a fun entertaining movie. The beginning truly broke my heart and Ji Chang Wook's performance when he was wrongfully imprisoned was astounding. I love him in every show I've seen him in from The K2, Healer, Empress Ki to Lovestruck in the City - he is very versatile. The balance between action and humor in this movie keeps it entertaining from beginning to end.

Good movie but voices were dubbed would rather have hade subtitles.

Great action movie from the start Ji Chan Wook great actor, looks great in screen, very professional. The only let down for me for the production too, dubbed with corny American voices. I prefer subs & to hear the actors actual voice. For me, he would make a great James Bond, I hope the same not done to his next movie. Not just a Romance Actor, but a great Action one too. Reminds me of the Black Majic Adverts, I watched growing up!!Looking forward to the next project, still rate this highly.
