this is not working at all. The test strip is not changing the color at all. I did the test with numerous strips same result no color change at all. It is working, my mistake

I had a whole-home HALO5 filtration system installed recently and felt like our water was much harder than when we only had a water softener. Bought a box of these to check for hardness. Easy to use and the hardness registers almost immediately. IF YOU HAVE HARD WATER, you need to check them within 30 seconds or so, otherwise the color of the test changes (see picture). When the filtration guy came out to check the HALO5 system, he read the strip immediately, and after a few minutes and said it wasn't that hard. I asked him to use another strip and that they were supposed to be read within 30 seconds. Within just a few minutes, it starts showing the original color of the test strip (which is green for soft). You can still see some of the rust color, but the green definitely shows through. I tried this with distilled (soft) water and the test color showed very soft. After an hour it was the same color just a bit lighter. BE SURE TO READ THE STRIP WITHIN 30 SECONDS FOR ACCURACY!

I was initially impressed by this water hardness test kit—150 strips seemed like a great value, and the tests were easy to use with clear instructions. The first few strips worked well and gave accurate results. However, the instructions clearly state that product needs to be used in 90 days which makes the remaining strips became completely unreliable. They either wont change color at all or will give wildly inconsistent readings from the same water source. It’s frustrating that a product advertised as a long-term solution has such a short usable lifespan. Unless you plan to use all 150 strips within three months, this just isn’t worth the purchase. The included eBook is informative, and the test method is simple, but the quality just doesn’t hold up. For monitoring your water softener or household water system long-term, you’ll want something more durable and dependable. Would not buy again.

Product is easy to use, recommended by wirecutter.com. And their customer service was incredibly fast, even on the weekend, answering a question I had. Five thumbs up. 😉

The test strips read the hardness fine with no issues. Bought on 8/22/26 and expires on 4/1/27. The product has a 2 year shelf life and the product is 1 1/2 year old already. So the test strips being sold are only good for 6 months!!!

Worked well, just what I needed to test the effectiveness of my water softener.
