Informative and in-depth
Having been a big fan of Depeche Mode since 1982, and having already read Steve Malin's excellent biography of the band, I wanted a more in-depth biography and I certainly got it with this, even if it is quite techy at times. It also comprehensively covers what Vince and Alan got up to after leaving the group. A very interesting (and very long) read. It finishes just after Playing The Angel; considering that was now more than 10 years ago, maybe an update would be good...

Very good perspective from the career of DM!
Very good perspective from the career of DM! This one and the biography of Steve Malins complete a very good portrait from this cult band.

Fletch should have left and not Alan
As a big of the Depeche Mode until Alan Wider left i did find this book interesting, but it started to get really repetitive from about half way through and really i didn't learn anything much more than most serious fans wouldn't already know. One thing that has cahnged by the book is my opinion on is Fletch - i used like him, even though its common knowledge he had zero musical input in the band - but now i really think he is a complete waste of space and an arrogant and ignorant prat. Yeah he says he does the management side of things - but anyone could have done that, he should have left DM and not Alan Wilder - and they would still be a great band today. How he could possibly dare to even voice an opinion on the production side of things or musical elements is a joke - he would have nothing outside of the band as has milked his position as the biggest blagger ever simply because he's Martins mate. He is a basically a poor version of Bez from the Happy Mondays - at least Bez could dance and was funny, fletch just stands around and claps (off beat). Alans input is clearly huge - compared to Fletch, yet Fletch is happy to slag Alan off while take the money from the sales of records that sell half the amount they did if it wasn't for Alans dedication.

The Devil is in the Detail
Wonderfully in-depth look at the group. Genuinely couldn't get over the detail that was gone into. Had this a Kindle book.

Fantastic read
May be huge, but this book is comprehensive and fairly accurate. A must-read for any true fan along with Malins' biography.

Really interesting book
I thought this was a really interesting book about one of my favourite bands in the world. Love the detail it goes into their lives and discography.

Everything counts
When it's not the book you were hoping for. This book is very long and written like a documentary I gave up half way through after my friend before me we both agreed it's just too long and not stimulating, a group such as this whose catalogues of great songs I love Home and Walk in my shoes there's no account directly from the band very uneventful

VERY well researched book!
I’ve got a good-sized collection of biographies of my favorite artists but this is easily the best band bio I’ve ever read! I’m a fast reader but the depth of detail and the number of pages took me a week to read. If you are a fan of Depeche Mode, Yaz, Mute Records, Recoil or Erasure, you need this book! The author interviews everyone imaginable, references hard to find articles, and puts it all in good chronological order. Not only will you be reading about Martin, Dave, and Fletch … you’ll also be getting some side-threads throughout the book on Vince, Allison, Andy Bell, Alan, Toast Hawaii, Yazoo, Erasure, and Recoil, as well as Martin and Dave’s solo projects, various producers, crew, and Anton Corbijn.I love this book and hope there’s an updated version in the works that continues the story through Memento Mori!

It is very good!
Well, I know a lot about the band but I have learned a lot of new words and expressions in English. It was the best part for me. Other than that, biographies are not reliable. I don't believe in most of the things that are written in these books. It is just a ploy to sell books. I prefer the language learning.

Incredibile
L'autore dimostra una conoscenza più patologica che maniacale per i DM.secondo me sa cose che neanche loro sanno, incredibile la conoscenza di dettagli di ogni genere

The best Depeche Mode book
Very complete and well written. Easy to read, with nice pictures to illustrate the whole thing. By far the best book about DM.
