Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (WBFE) (DVD)

Who doesn’t love Scooby doo! My kiddos are getting into it so had to get a classic from my childhood. Came fast shipping wise was wrapped nicely and disk played great. Picture was great quality definitely recommend

This is pure fun. In the opening, this cranks up the ridiculous past anywhere it was in the original cartoon. Before the opening credits roll Shaggy locks a door with four or five locks, then opens a door across the way, sees a monster, turns and tries to pull the door he just locked open without unlocking it. Then he turns to the left and runs out an open archway into the hallway. That entire opening sequence, aside from being hilarious, sets up the “monsters are always fake” pathway. We move to Daphne in her modern world on a television interview talking about changing her career to a reporter for a show called “Coast to Coast with Daphne Blake” and get all the needed backstory on how the team split up, sans her and Fred (and, one presumes, Shaggy and Scooby), how she got bored with all the monsters and ghosts always being fake (ruh roh, foreshadowing) and what tone we might expect from the rest of the movie. From there it’s the traditional “get the gang back together and let’s go solve a mystery” motif. This sets up the “this time the monsters are real” pathway. The movie could follow either path. I’m not saying which it does. This appeals on multiple fronts. First, for fans of the original wanting more of what they fell in love with, the antics (some dive right into Loony Toons territory) the goofy traps, the dynamic of the team, this has it. At its core, that’s what this is (whacky chase scenes to music and all). Fans of the newer versions who like the more take a step back look at their world and their place in it, there is plenty of that here, particularly in the music (The Ghost is Here) and the jokes (stale Scooby Snax – that is how it’s spelled on the box). At one point Shaggy unpacks a suitcase filled with identical green shirts. The two elements balance and compliment each other quite well. For an old movie, this still holds up. The video is great for a cartoon, even if in a square, not wide-screen format because of its age, and the sound quality, while stereo not surround sound, is excellent. If you’re going to watch the 2019 Return to Zombie Island, it’s definitely worth watching this first as that is a direct sequel to this.

Got a good discount on it. Arguably one of the best, if not the best, piece of scooby doo related media. I would say hang on to your dvd if you enjoy the featurette.

Bought this classic to watch with the family and introduce the kids to one of the best Scooby-Doo movies we grew up with. It was fun getting to watch it again after all these years, and even better getting to enjoy it with them this time around. Still holds up and was a great family movie night. Definitely one of those nostalgic movies we're glad to have in our collection.

Favorite movie

Before I get too far into my review, let me re-affirm what many one- and two-star reviewers have already stated: the monsters in this movie are "real", and it IS a lot creepier than any other Scooby Doo movie or episode your kids have ever watched. That being said, our family LOVES this movie. We are from Louisiana and the (however botched and stereotypical) aspects of our own culture provide intense entertainment for both my husband and myself. The most realistic part of this entire feature is the Mystery Machine and its occupants struggling to mantain their dignity and grip on the excessively bumpy roads! Bonus points on my end for nostalgia as well, since I watched this often growing up. To summarize the plot for any who are curious: the "gang" are older now and have been split up for some time, but all miss various aspects of their mystery solving glory days, and are slightly unhappy in their new adult lives. Fred plans a reunion to surprise Daphne, who is currently fixated on discovering their first "real" ghost. They travel together to New Orleans in search of a famously haunted mansion (a mash-up of two real-life Louisiana locations, The Myrtles Plantation and Avery Island...) and encounter evil cat-worshippers (I know, right!?) who have lured them all to the island as a sacrifice to their Cat Gods. Also there are a slew of zombies (people who were previously used as offerings.) All in all, this is a fantastic movie. My daughter is 3 and has no problem with it (although we did sit her down first and talk about cartoons and how they are all pretend and just made from drawings, so that may help any of you who are worried about it being too scary.)

Excellent choice for terrifying unsuspecting children. Highly recommend.

un DVD exelente para los coleccionistas y fans de scooby...a mi parecer la mejor película de este simpático perro asustadiso ,sin olvidar la también divertida "scooby doo y el fantasma de la bruja,que por cierto lamentablemente esta agotada aquí en amazon. esta edición de importación contiene dos discos,uno con la película ,y otro con extras...la imagen de este DVD es impecable,y que decir del sonido,exelente,tanto en su idioma original ingles,y afortunadamente con su doblaje en español latino. llego un dia antes de lo acordado,y por supuesto en exelentes condiciones,por eso me encanta comprar en amazon mx.

Scooby Doo! Where Are You? is a television animation whom millions upon MILLIONS of people have watched through time, I mean we all have our favourite mysteries from it, we have our favourite characters (personally i LOVE them all!) and has shaped popular culture and 'children's television' over the past five decades! Now that is an incredible feat that i don't think even Hannah Barbara predicted when they created the show back in 1969! This film was created in the late 90's in an era in which Scooby Doo animations weren't regularly on telly and the animation had died 'essentially' after A Pup Named Scooby Doo had aired in 1991! But, in 1998 this mini EPIC motion picture was released, GONE are the days of cheesy mysteries and Scrappy-Doo. Zombie Island is a back to basics mystery that revitalised the brand to the top of its game and from this film we had numerous successful sequels (still going large in 2010! and hopefully for the next decade to come). From this animation it also blurred the lines of what was enabled to be watched for a cartoon...essentially for children and families, but Scooby Doo is a show that despite it's genre is accessible for everyone of all ages (I am now 18!) the animation is just so vibrant to watch even to this day, the simplicity is gorgeous and definitive. Given the topics raised within the films dark (and i use that loosely, there are several reasons for why this film is in my top 10 horror films of all time you know!) and eerie setting we get some quite horrific beasties to face too with ghosts, ghouls, ZOMBIES, the supernatural and Cat Gods! to say the film has it all is the biggest understatement. With a remarkable voice cast, superb direction and a fantastically detailed plot we have something very hitchcock meets Hammer Horror in essence with Zombie Island, with all f its carnage and eerily disturbing detail this film shocked me when i first saw it 10 years ago (i was 7!) BUT in a great sense that is! it's a real adrenaline rushed yet refreshingly funny film indeed. Over the years we have had various incarnations of the Scooby Gang with films and television shows (What's New Scooby Doo? amongst others!) and it all started here! a fantastic masterpiece! 5/5 I must say that this movie is also the greatest of the entire film series too alongside the superb Alien Invaders! both top notch films. But Witch's Ghost and Cyber Chase are really strong films too!

Junto a "El fantasma de la bruja", esta película está considerada lo mejor de la franquicia, una vuelta de tuerca que revitalizó sus claves. Para los seguidores de la saga este dvd precisamente (con la franja superior naranja) es una buena opción (si adquieren películas de Zona 1) ya que contiene el doblaje español latino que reconocemos de siempre en este tipo de películas. Aunque pongan Reino Unido, son importaciones del mercado USA.
