Awesome and enlightening
I purchased this to replace my old water damaged copy and have enjoyed reading it again. It doesn't loose any of it's punch and still really gives a very accurate depiction of this life. I'm also sharing it with a friend afterwards.

My best book of all time, period!
I have read this book various times and have a few copies. I actually bought this copy for my brother because I knew he'd appreciate it.I first bought this book years before it was developed into a movie. And, since watching the movie it just increased my love for the book.I love the way Victor Headley paints the picture of the scene with words and builds the tension in the scenes. If you love action and crime sprinkled with a love story, just press the buy button now!

Not exciting. Disappointed
I have to be really honest. I was very excited about this book but I was very disappointed when I finished it. The only thing I enjoyed about this book was that it was relatable culturally. I liked the use of patios and references to Jamaican life in the UK. The plot started off good but didn't go anywhere yet still managed to some how to leave me with so many unanswered questions. I didn't like D's character, he went from this hustler trying to escape ghetto life and make a life for himself, to a rapist, druggy & cheater. It will be interesting to see this in a film version of this which has been made my Idris Elba. I'm curious to know why he chose this book to make a film out off because although it does highlight the injustice and politics in Jamaica and being black and forgein in the UK, it portrays all yardies negatively and ticked every stereotypical box.

Average
Not bad. But lacked character depth

overrated pulp fiction about extremely unlikable characters.
I am fascinated by Jamaican culture/subculture and thought this book may be up my street . I wanted to read it before watching the idris elba film. I couldnt finish it. The writing is appalling.
