Decent movie
There is so much entertainment in this movie it would be almost stupid to write about its flaws. Especially the story is not the best thing here, but who cares. I liked every scene, every moment in this movie. The movie opens in Egypt, 1914, and we meet some strange creatures. From here on we know this is not going to be a normal or very serious sci-fi action movie. The creatures tell a priest that the stones are no longer save on earth and they take some things. They tell the priest they will return in 300 years, when evil arrives.300 years later. The strange creatures return but they are attacked by other strange creatures. The only thing that survives is reconstructed and turns out to be Lee Loo (Milla Jovovich). She is the fifth element, the ultimate weapon against evil. Evil here looks like a great ball of fire. Lee Loo escapes from the authorities, and in an astonishing shot we see how a city looks like now. She jumps of a building and ends up in the flying cab of Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis). He saves her from the police, she asks for priest Vito Cornelius (Ian Holm), he brings her there. We learn a little more about Lee Loo here. She needs four stones, the four other elements, to save the world. The stones are on a vacation resort where we meet DJ Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker). He has some funny scenes as well. We have also met Zorg, who is played by Gary Oldman in a great way. The attack on the strange creatures early in the movie was planned by him. He wants the stones as well, he is offered a lot of money for them. How the story develops from here I will not reveal. The story doesn't even matter. In every scene we have something to like. Beautiful settings, great visual effects, Gary Oldman, the beautiful Jovovich or the funny moments from Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker and Ian Holm. May be this movie is not for everyone but if you don't think to much you will definitely like it.

Stylish and great performances with a good storyline
Not just another mindless action-packed fantasy - this movie was made before all that.IMDB: 7.6 Rotten Tomatoes: 71% My rating: 10/10One of my all-time favourites, mainly because it tells a believable story with tongue-in-cheek finesse and solid performances from all. Don't look at it as a Bruce Willis action movie, rather as a light-relief interlude. The quality of the download is questionable - on my TV it seems to be better than HD but the CGI backgrounds are not, I'm not sure whether that is because of the original definition but in general it is good enough definition with very high detail on closeups.Well worth the special price.

Perfection on a budget; 1080p 2015 Bluray
This is a review of the 2015 Blu-ray release. 1 x 48-GB disc (movie + bonus material)I wanted to own a copy of this movie. After reviewing different editions and comparing snippets, I settled on the 2015 release in plain full HD. No regret!I wanted to watch the movie as I remembered it: colorful. I was a bit turned off by the 2017 4K Sony release. I looked at snippets of the 2020 release on YouTube, but it wasn't as I remembered it. When studios push for HDR releases, they also alter the contrast, which is off-putting to me. Additionally, the grain structure seems to be enhanced, which I find distracting.I hoped the 2020 release would be better, as I was told it's more colorful. Sadly, the post-processing and coloring for this version isn't true to form; it seems they used the original negatives and not the final edited version. As a result, the coloring and some cuts were not how I actually saw it as a kid; "imitated" might be a better word. Then there's the bonus material. It seems bonus material isn't common anymore, so if you want actual additional content, the older releases seem to offer more. The 2020 release offers nothing. The 2015 release comes with a pleasing amount of bonus material. The 1080p version is lower resolution, but this softness tames the heavy grain structure, which reduces the distractions as the grain size changes scene to scene. There is no HDR, so no worries about contrast being overdone either. The soundtrack is Atmos, so it's wonderful. But the final clincher was that the 2015 FHD release was about 1/7th the cost of the 2020 4K release.I watched this movie with full delight. No part of the movie felt wrong or not as I remembered it. A couple of scenes were a tad brighter than I remembered, like the city scene, but in a good way. The grain noise was not noticeable in the vast majority of the film, and I didn't once wish a part was HDR-enhanced. Colors were pretty much as I remembered them. With the money I saved, I'll invest it, and perhaps when there's an 8K AI-enhanced release in another ten years, I'll have saved up enough to buy two copies of that.

FILM is great! but this offer is a crap!
US release of blu ray region A, no info about it. No back side shown, where that info is listed. Moreover, item description "Now fully remastered in 4K, experience this dynamic action favorite like never before " NOT TRUE since it is a BD edition

Come segnalato all'inizio, il DVD acquistato da me é regione 1, made in USA, quindi in Europa é compatibile solo su lettori "multiregion". Ma ogni tanto su Amazon appare pure qualche offerta di supporti in regione 2. Buona caccia e buona fortuna.
