Murder in a Different Place
An old friend of Harry's has died and his cousins have invited Harry and his partner, Peter and friends Libby Sarjeant and Ben Wilde and Fran and her husband Guy Wolfe to stay on the Isle of Wight for a week and to attend the funeral. It soon becomes clear that the three elderly cousins have an ulterior motive in asking them to stay but they don't seem willing to help with information. As Harry seems to be involved somehow, Libby wants to find out what is going on in spite of the outright hostility from the three ladies.Everyone agrees they will forget all about it when they return home but somehow the mystery - which includes Harry's background - keeps coming back to haunt them even when they're back in Kent.I thought this book was probably one of the best in a good series. The plot as ever has lots of ramifications and I like the way the author weaves them all together to make a satisfying whole. I feel as though I have really got to know the series characters and it is like meeting old friends to read the next book in the series. I recommend this book and this series to anyone who likes crime stories with little on the page violence and bad language and likeable characters.

The characters are now my friends and I enjoy a good long visit catching up with their lives
In this book we travel to the Isle of Wight - I enjoy the descriptive geographical references in Lesley's books and this has taken me to yet another part of the UK I would like to visit. The familiar characters are all back but in this book, we get to know Harry more as the plot centres around his background. The reason we look forward to a series with the same characters is because we become familiar with them - they are like old friends we get to visit once or twice a year. And like friends, the more we get to know them, the more we uncover their personalities. That is what Lesley is doing with the Libby Sarjeant books - letting us get to know them better and better. Just like real friends, we may not always agree with them, but we accept them and look forward to a good old catch up whenever we can. Looking forward to my next visit with Libby and Co...

Hurry up and write another please!
A great read. As usual, full of intrigue until the very end, but a gentle mystery rather than a gory killing spree.I enjoyed the change of location and the addition of characters as well as the war references. Even though I am neither an am dram or history enthusiast, these elements always add interest to Lesley Cook man's books and this one is no different. I am just sad I have come to the end. Hurry up and write another for me Lesley PLEASE!Perfect for whiling away the hours on your Kindle, best accompanied with a cup of tea in a proper cup and saucer, made in a pot, just as Libby and Fran would like it.

Loved it! Another fabulous Libby Sarjeant book - a must read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, another wonderful cosy murder mystery by an author who has become one of my favourites. This time set in Kent and the Isle of Wight – places I hardly know in real life, but now I just have to visit! This is the 13th in the Libby series – and I’ve read and enjoyed them all. Lesley Cookman certainly hasn’t disappointed with the latest adventures of Libby and her friends. I just couldn’t put the book down, and as I have done with the other Libby books, read it in 2 or 3 sittings. Although the books can be read out of sequence, I do recommend reading them in order to get the most out of them. The characters have developed since the first book, and so has the writing - I’ve enjoyed the journey immensely – so much so I plan to re-read them all as a treat to myself this summer! I do wish I liked tea as much as Libby does (can’t stand the stuff) but I do like fresh coffee, and love all the talk of food and wine being a bit of a foodie myself!Libby collects friends with each story, adding them to her group of friends, such is the warmth that flows through each book. Whilst reading I too feel part of that inner circle of Libby’s – she and her friends leap out of the pages of the book and surround me with their warmth. I adore them all – and can’t wait for the next book! Keep on writing please Lesley Cookman!

Another excellent part of a fantastic series
I downloaded this as I just couldn't wait for it to come out in print I was that excited and I certainly was not let down. I love the Libby Sarjeant books and this one was no let down.It was great to find out more about Libby's friend Harry and to have the friends visit the Isle of Wight to solve a mystery/murder.All the characters in Lesley's books are so believable which makes the books so realistic even though Libby does have a habit of stumbling upon Murders!I can't rate this book or the others in the series highly enough. Thank you Lesley for an excellent series and how am I going to contain myself till October when the next one is released?! x

Cosy mystery with great sense of place
I've never been to the Isle of Wight. A terrible oversight on my part, it seems, because it sounds beautiful. I love the Libby Serjeant books; Libby herself isn't the infallible all-knowing detective, she's sometimes crabby and often wrong, but there is just something very comforting about her and her group of friends. This book is, as ever, an enthralling read with a nice little mystery at the heart of it. Not the kind of mystery that makes me sit up all night with the lights on and my palms sweating, but the sort that gives a pleasant tingle on realising that the book is sitting waiting to be read. Couldn't put it down, as they say, and finished it with the feeling that I'd been on a jolly holiday with a bunch of sometimes argumentative but always loving friends.

Another Winner
Another mystery requiring the talents of Libby Sarjeant and her group of friends- this time way from home ground on the Isle of Wight.I love renewing my aquantance with all the characters in this series of books and it was interesting to have the story based on Harry's past. I love the interaction between the characters and the way new ones are introduced and then come to stay- just like i would if I could. It was a cosy murder mystery with many twists & turns but is the little details about their lives togeher that makes the books such page turners. I am looking forward to October when the next book comes out.

Good British Mystery
I have read all the other books in this series and found them to very good and this one was no exception. You have the same characters appearing in each book so you get to 'know' them and then she will introduce someoone else. This book had a mystery surrounding Harry's birth and who his parents were. If you like a good light mystery book then these will appeal to you.

Ah its Libby and Fran again
Have read all of these book and eagerly await each one wondering what mystery Libby Fran and the rest of the team will get themselves tangled up with this time. The characters are believable and lovable especially Harry and Peter and Fran's gift keeps on popping up at odd moments. Libby can be pushy and bolchy but for all that she still worms her way in to our affections and is very likable.

Another fine mystery
Lesley Cookman is an artist when it comes to plot-lines. She is one author who keeps me wondering whodunnit right up to the end. This latest entry in the Libby Sarjeant series was really convoluted and the plot twisted back upon itself several times. This time the story will revolve around Harry, one of the liveliest characters in the series. His life has been a mystery. Even his life-partner Peter doesn't know about Harry's beginnings and we find out that this is because Harry doesn't know himself where he was born or who his parents were. The man who helped Libby's friend, Harry Price, get a start in life has died. Harry asks Libby and her partner Ben to accompany him to the funeral on the Isle of Wight. His friend owned a house on the beach there and they can all have a week's holiday by the sea. Libby's psychic friend Fran and her husband are also invited to vacation there after the funeral. When they arrive on the island they meet the cousins of the deceased and these three old ladies are really strange. They want Libby to investigate the death of their youngest sister who, they insist, was murdered. Add to this the fact that they seem to be hiding a grave secret and will not give a straight answer to any of Libby's questions! The friends soon learn that this secret involves Harry Price, and soon after he is being stalked and his life is threatened. Was the sister really murdered? And what has Harry got to do with any of this? I read this one from start to finish in one sitting. Highly recommended.

A ripping yarn in the best British tradition!
I have read all the books in the Libby Sarjeant series, and have enjoyed all of them. I felt this was one of the best in the series. Who can resist an engaging 'cast of characters from a quaint Kent village who turn out to have more and more secrets exposed from their pasts? In this case, Harry (one of the cafe owners who has been an endearing, supportive friend of Libby and the 'gang') is the one whose ambiguous parentage becomes the focus and catalyst for a ripping murder yarn set in a different place ( a small British island) for part of the book. There are lots of red herrings and three slightly sinister sisters who provide a modern and at times comical version of the witches from 'Macbeth'.One of the things I really enjoy about Cookman's writing is her ability to create a sense of the setting that both provides a clear picture of that location and its significance in terms of mood and clues. I can't wait to read the next one in the series, as I could not put this novel down until I finished it. I read it completely in one weekend.

I'm working my way through this series of books by Lesley Cookman. I suppose they could be described as 'cosy' but there is murder, there is violence - just not too overt and nothing gratuitous. I feel I've come to know the characters - and like them. The author has a fine eye for description - particularly of buildings - but there is never too much of it; just enough to allow you create your own picture of a place or thing in the mind. These books entertain me - and I think that's what a book should always do.

I have liked all of the previous books and this one was interesting and fun but somehow I missed the explanation of who Harry' granny was. I read the chapter over again and reread but still never figured out who she was. Maybe I missed something somewhere. There seemed to be a lot of misprints in this e-book - incorrect spellings and some words missing. Possibly I was missing more than a few words. I will read the next book though - I was born and raised in England and spent a few years in Kent so a lot of the places are familiar to me. Brings back a lot of memories.

This is a very moving book by Lesley Cookman. It really keeps you guessing on the who of the mystery. I like the way the author keeps the main characters in her books together so you know who is who when you are reading this series. Back to the book now, I found it another page turner; because I was wanting to find out the who and why of the story. I really think the Cookman readers will find it to their liking.

Take it or leave it
I wonder if I'm going off cosy crime, at least for now. This story was a bit different to the other Libby Sarjeant mysteries, as it was set in a different place - the Isle of Wight. What had not changed was the long, sometimes very confusing conversations between the characters, which go round and around. It got on my nerves this time because there was not enough investigative material to get your teeth into and the mystery was contrived to include the usual suspects, regardless of the change of location. There were also 10 typographical errors, including one wrong name.Having said all of that, I will almost certainly read the next in the series, though not as soon as it is released. I have a bit of a 'take it or leave it' attitude now.

My kind of Mystery
Loved this book will definitely be reading the entire series. If you like a murder mystery with lot's of twists and turns this is for you. I wasn't bogged down with a lot of introductions and descriptions before the story began. I like that, if you read mysteries like I do I pick all that up as the story progresses. Good, very good book.

Dull and duller
The whole story line was tortured. What was the big secret, the scandal that could not be revealed? Half way through the book I could have cared less. There was no suspense, no intrigue, nothing to hold a reader's interest. Just constant dialogue about the scandal and whether anyone had actually been murdered. You can skip this one and not even miss it.

Cookman is Top Reading !!!
So far I have read every one of Cookman's books and enjoyed them immensely!! You grow to firmly appreciate and enjoy her complex characters, such as the Star of all of the novels, Libby Sergeant. Each " episode" draws you in with a brand new clever plot, whilst much of the " cast " remains the same.
