desertcart.com: The 5 Second Rule: Transform your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage (Audible Audio Edition): Mel Robbins, Mel Robbins, Mel Robbins Productions Inc.: Audible Books & Originals Review: A Simple Concept That Actually Motivated Me to Take Action - The 5 Second Rule was one of those books that surprised me more than I expected. The concept is simple — almost too simple at first — but the more I read, the more I realized how often I talk myself out of doing things I should be doing. The book really made me think about how many small moments in my day I let slip because I hesitate or overthink. Using the “5-4-3-2-1” countdown actually does interrupt that cycle, and it helped me take action in situations where I normally stall. What I liked: The book is motivating, and the stories throughout it make the idea feel relatable instead of just theoretical. It’s easy to pick up, and the whole “just start” mindset applies to so many areas — getting out of bed, tackling work tasks, exercising, even having tough conversations. It also made me more aware of how quickly hesitation can kill momentum, which was something I didn’t fully notice until this book pointed it out. Where it falls short: Some parts of the book repeat the same idea in different ways, so if you catch on early, certain chapters may feel a bit stretched. And while the method is powerful, building the habit of actually using it consistently still takes effort. Overall, though, I’m glad I read it. The core message stuck with me, and it gave me a push to stop overthinking and just take action. If you want a mindset shift that’s simple but surprisingly effective, this book is definitely worth a read. Review: Motivating advice! - As I have been reading The 5 Second Rule… by Mel Robbins, I have been implementing it into my life a little at a time. I went from sitting on the couch scrolling each night, to actually working on my 2026 goals. One is to finish a quilt for my daughter, which I have counted 54321, several times to get moving on it. I have quite enjoyed moving forward.

A Simple Concept That Actually Motivated Me to Take Action

A Book That Truly Changed My Life
This book is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful I’ve ever read. Before discovering The 5 Second Rule, I often found myself overthinking, doubting, and postponing the things I knew I had to do. Reading Mel Robbins completely shifted that mindset. The “5 Second Rule” gave me a simple but life-changing tool to push through hesitation and actually take action. I started applying it in small everyday moments—studying when I didn’t feel like it, going to the gym, making important decisions—and little by little, I noticed how much more confident and productive I became. It’s incredible how something so simple can help you stop procrastinating and build the courage to face anything. For me, this book is more than just advice—it feels like a guide to living with purpose, discipline, and self-belief. I truly recommend it to anyone who wants to take control of their life, break the habit of waiting, and start moving closer to their dreams.

Great concepts!
Loved the simple tools and brief research background where appropriate. Writing seemed a little redundant, nevertheless good read and would definitely recommend.

I am so torn
I am so torn. I love the #5SecondRule. Mel Robbins is a rock star. I love her TED Talk, and other interviews I've seen her on. The book is filled with solid, actionable information that I am putting into action in my own life with awesome success. Kudos Mel Robbins! For that I'd give it 5 stars, no doubt. The constant stream of "social proof" via the social media posts broke the flow of the text, and constantly took me out of the experience. One at the end of each chapter to bring home how to integrate the information into the reader's life? Sure. But one almost every page, and sometimes twice? C'mon! The format was simply too long for the amount of actionable information given, and the social proof stuff felt like fillers to justify the length of the book. Another reviewer wrote that the actual information given could've easily fit into a blog post, and I think they're correct. For that I'd give it 3 stars. For the love of humanity, somebody - preferably a PROFESSIONAL editor - please, please, PLEASE edit this freaking book! I have a rule that once I start a book, I finish it, but the editorial mistakes were so pervasive that it was almost unreadable. (And I'm not talking about the "UR" or other grammatical errors on the social media posts either!) It got so bad that it actually started to piss me off. So much so that I actually took note of the publisher, and will avoid books from them in the future because of the epic editorial fail. If Ms. Robbins paid for an editor, she got ripped off. I was so grateful to reach the last page because it meant I was through with the book, but I don't think any author wants people to close their book in relief to be done with it. For that, I'd give it -0 stars if that were possible, and demand that the publisher's slew of proofreaders/editors give her her money back. The publisher did her an enormous disservice. Shame on them! I've actually given this book as a gift to several people I know who will get a lot of it, but it comes with the caveat that the editing is sub par, for sure.

Mel Robbins, The 5 Second Rule is easily in the top 3 best books I have ever read; and I read a lot of books! Thank you for writing it and sharing your wisdom with us! I started reading this book a few weeks ago and already I am breaking bad habits, actually focusing on things I need to do and being productive in my day! My schedule and life is feeling so much lighter now that I am getting work done and getting it out of my head! After all, “the brain remembers unfinished tasks more than finished ones!” And my head had been swarming with unfinished things for months! This book is a must read for anyone struggling to get work done, feeling frustrated on the lack of progress they have made toward their goals or dealing with worry or anxiety. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
