Braven (Blu-Ray)

Classic action movie
Simply a great action movie. Jason Momoa plays a resilient, but not unbelievably capable, lead. The pace is sustained throughout. The supporting roles are well developed, and stereotypes are avoided. Joe Braven runs a logging company, and is a solid family man who, along with his wife and young daughter, are supporting his father, who is increasingly affected with dementia. Joe takes his father to their mountain cabin, where unknown to them, a sizeable quantity of drugs has been stashed. Almost immediately the well armed and highly ruthless gang turn up to recover their stash. The cat and mouse chase that follows is played out against the breathtaking Newfoundland scenery which is almost a character presence itself.

A competent thriller.
I bought this movie as a huge fan of Jason Momoa. He's long been one of my favourite actors. Braven is a by the numbers vengeance thriller about a lumber merchant in Canada. Joe Braven has a wife, who teaches archery, and a cutesy daughter Charlotte. His dad has had some sort of accident leaving him. With memory problems. Having established Joe as a dedicated husband and loving son/father, the movie details one of Joe's crooked workers in a drug muling caper gone awry. When the dealer (Garratt Dillahunt firing on less than his usual cylinders) comes looking for his merchandise at Joe's cabin where he's taken his father to have a man-to-man chat, violence ensues. Braven is a competent thriller with some nice beats in it. But it never really excites or thrills like it should. Now I love Momoa, don't get me wrong. The man should be a huge star, by now, instead of a jobbing actor. The writing let's this one down. It's adequate, but never more than that. Which is a shame.I enjoyed the film well enough, but it wasn't stunning by a long trek. The scenery was breathtaking, but the script sold Momoa short, I felt. His work on the Netflix show Frontier outshining this character. If you're interested in his work I heartily recommend Road To Paloma. Still, Braven was a nice ninety minute diversion for a tenner.

great action after a steady start
Typical action adventure film. Braven is a logger who takes his ill father to their remote cabin to talk, his daughter hides in the truck and goes with them. Unknown to Braven 1 of his drivers has hidden a large cocain delivery at the cabin and the drug dealers want it back. great action after a steady start, lots of great scenery, some blood and guts. The ending could be happy or sad, watch yourself to see.

Grave, certainly
Jason Momoa has a screen presence that draws you along. You are left with the impression you would look me him in your corner if in a fix. I do not believe there is a greater compliment to such an actor. The film is good too. Buy it.

let down only by one poor idea
A Great little action Flick with some Good stunts and Firefights. The one major issue though is with Stephen Langs character who seems to have dementia and this strand of the script seems to only serve as an excuse to get the Heroes to go to the cabin and then is never mentioned or brought up again.

OK actioner.
Apparently I have to write something here about this entertaining popcorner, otherwise my star rating won't register. :)
