Does the 12 pack mean twelve containers and 12 lids or 12 pieces in total?

There are 12 containers with 12 lids.

What are the interior dimensions of the box? Specifically the length and width of the bottom (looks more narrow than the top) as well as the height.

I did not measure at the bottom but at the top the inside dimensions are 12 1/4 x 7 1/2 x 4 1/4. Bottom is a tad bit narrower than the top.

Good for storing shoes?

Maura...I can store my shoes but I think if you wear a larger size....about a ten or greater....there could be an issue.

How much weight can it handle stacked?

Surprisingly, 110 lbs! My test box caved in after 20 minutes at 145 lbs. That's cement blocks stacked on a single box, with a lid, on a scale. Unfortunately I can't post photos in an answer - it was impressive!
