And this is what makes The Battle better than the Warlord or Victor!
The Battle had so many great stories, Johnny Red, The Sarge, Invasion 1984, Charley's War, even the Action Force stories were pretty damn good (until they switched from Baron Ironblood and the Red Shadows to Cobra). HMS Nightshade was my favourite though, it had excitement, it had tragedy, it had truly believable characters, it just had such real heart, it gave you some inkling of the pain and suffering matelots went through in WW2. When the crew sing "I saw 3 ships" on Christmas day on the Arctic convoys it has such pathos, it brought me to literal tears. And THAT ending had me utterly bawling! Something which none of the other comics I ever bought achieved (although The Sarge would also have that effect). Because on a Second World War corvette you lived hard, you fought hard and you died hard. And you never expected anything else....

Good read
I found this book a great trip down memory lane. Ideal for all us men who can't leave their childhood behind or those like me who haven't left it!

Good
I used to read the old Commando, Action and Battle comics as a kid, it's good to see and read them again.

Keep 'em coming.
The first volume of these, the second one's out now too, great read, love the way they've cleaned up the pages from the original comics (yes, I'm that old that I read them first time round), hope to see loads more volumes.

Ww2 gem
One of my favourite stories. Showing how hard it was in the royal navy during the war.

Love this stuff, always have.
I have always liked Commando Comics, Battle, Victor, Warlord and other British Comics. As I live in Canada they were a bit hard to find as a kid. But these compilations have brought me back to those days where I could actually enjoy a comic. If you enjoy British War Comics from the 1970's through to 1980's then this book is for you. The fact that Garth Innis (if this name means nothing to you then move on, there's nothing for you here) recommends the stories included means that I am getting the best of Battle. One thing though; in this book the bulk of it is the HMS Nightshade story with a few small shorts thrown in. If you are looking for a book that has a greater variety of stories then you need to pick one of the other Titan books.
