"Jade Ring" - Gourd Box Sculpture

Perched atop a teardrop gourd, belly resting on a gourd pedestal, a green jade ring invites access to the contents inside. It reminded me a bit of Aladdin's lamp without the spout. Surrounded by green glass seed beads, Aladdin figured out that this is not the lamp he needed to keep the genie in. Edge-beaded to form a malleable rim for a secure fit, it almost smiles with its toothy, green glass seed beads and shell full of holes. At night, I put an LED tea candle in it for a nightlight. It shines pretty patterns on the wall and gives the room a romantic ambiance. Or, as functional art, it hold items you want out of the way, but accessible, even if partially hidden.
