Ramayana: The Divine Loophole

Misses the target
I wanted to love this book. I wanted to enjoy it with my child and build a little pre-Diwali ritual of reading it. Sadly it's not quite right and lacks balance. It seems to be a book that trys to cater to all but serves none.Firstly the good. It looks great and is finished well. It's a lovely book to handle and the illustrations are a joy to let your eyes drift over. I suspect the positive reviews of this book are largely related to just how nice the book is as a visual object. On visuals alone the book is close to five stars.Sadly this book is let down by it's text. Despite how good the illustrations are I couldn't help but feeling unsatisfied by the whole experience, a situation mostly due to inelegant text. The prose is very much a chatty West coast USA style. It's prone to oversimplification and simultaneous over-effusiveness. The result is text that is shallow enough for an adult or young adult reader to find dull and grating but for a younger child to find overly lengthy and meandering. So it's hard to know who this book is for. It's a real shame as the concept of the book is excellent, it just needed a more adept writer onboard.

Fantastic friendly, illustrated version of the epic tale
This book has been an absolutely brilliant version of the classic epic in our Hindu home. Its had a positive impact on our 10yo. Wonderfully friendly illustrations for 3yo, storyline is simplified but has the right level of details. Recommending to all family and donating a copy for our local school to share the culture. Great job Sanjay Patel!

An amazing version of the Ramayana! Just WOW!
We loved Sanjay Patel's Disney Pixar short animation - 'Sanjay's Superteam' and only just found out he has written books... WOW! Stunning illustrations and a well written (child friendly) version of The Ramayana. My son absolutely loved it - we read it in one day and we had a go at drawing our own versions of the characters. We are looking forward to read it tomorrow!- would be slightly nicer if the font size was slightly larger BUT an amazing book! Absolutely recommend!

beautiful
This is a beautiful book. It is visually captivating and every page is just gorgeous. If I have a criticism it is that the story is a bit too brief and could have been developed a bit more. However the author himself says in the introduction that he isn't a fan of words, more of pictures, so it is perfectly in that mode !I bought it to introduce the kids to an important part of their heritage and they love it.Would recommend to anyone interested either in hindu retelling for the modern age, or for the imagery.

Out of the world illustrations!
This was a joy to look at! The graphics were out of the world but on the hind side the story line was a let down. Many key components of the story were missing or were represented 'awkwardly'. I bought this book for my son, and he thought this is really 'cool' so it is great way to get them interested in the great epic Ramayana.

Sanjay Patel has a unique and memorable style of modern art
The media could not be loaded. Wonderful illustrations by Sanjay Patel, with a unique grapich style look. The style is not for all the people.. Although is quite wonderful to see and notice the amount of dedication and hard work put in this wonderful book.Sanjay Patel has a unique and memorable style of modern art
