In his mid-30s, Waters picked up his first electric guitar and began to revolutionise popular music. With the mix of his southern roots and gritty urban life, Waters pioneered a new form of the Blues. His guitar licks and repertoire have fuelled innumerable blues bands. This live footage of Muddy Waters at the Chicago Blues Fest of 1981 includes a guest appearance by Johnny Winter, Big Twist and Mighty Joe Young. This was the final version of the Muddy Waters Blues Band and included the legendary Mojo Buford, John Primer, Rick Kreher, Ernest Johnson, Ray Allison and Lovie Lee. Late Mud but well worth the price of admission
The personnel is Muddy Waters (vocal/guitar), Johnny Winter (vocal/guitar), Ray Allison (drums), Lovie Lee (piano), John Primer (guitar), Mojo Buford (harmonica), bassist Ernest Johnson. ChicagoFest 1981. There is an excellent 2-page sleeve note on the inner side of the DVD sleeve. The sound quality is very good, even if the visual is slightly less so. Muddy was playing less towards the end of his life than in the 1970s (and earlier) but the chemistry and mutual respect between him and Johnny Winter is evident for all to see.

Music is great but....
there are some issues that stop me giving it 5 stars.This is a great concert. The music is 5 star. Muddy is on top form with a fine backing band.Point 1. Who are they? There is no intro during the show and no booklet/notes to name them. Johnny Winter, who comes on mid-show and part way through a song, is the only one I recognise. Is that Pinetop Perkins on piano?Point 2. Five Long Years is listed as one of the songs played. What you get is a couples of lines sung by someone Muddy invites onstage for a jam. It's a bit naughty to give the song full listing for 2 lines!Point 3. At about 40 minutes, my copy loses colour for about 6 minutes,plays in b/w, then the colour slowly returns.Somewhat disconcerting! (Sorry for the pun).Otherwise this is first class. Recommended for the performance.

The disc had been forced into unsuitable packaging. It split into four pieces on removal. The person who removed it is a professional musician and used to dealing delicately and appropriately with such things.

Totally unsatisfied!
The product I recived was unuseable due to the fact that it could not be played on any of my DVD players because it was for the wrong Region! What more can I say. I have emailed the vendor and had no responce. Why are they selling DVD Region 1 products to the UK when these products cannot be played in the UK? Why do Amazon allow such products to be sold through their web site?

Good Concert
3.5 starsMuddy later in his career but still good not in his prime though. Great to see Johnny Winter playing with him too. Good value for the money. Well shot and great sound quality.

Pocos meses antes de su fallecimiento Muddy hizo esta actuación en el Festival de Blues de Chicago con una banda para salir del paso.
