Sounds ok But...
No song titles display, also on a few the first note was missing, as these were standards like Gene Vincent I had them already.when you have to spend a couple of hours putting these Titles, Artists and Genre in manually it isn't worth it.Find a Bear Family CD instead.

hear the bloody gears of a boppin' machine...
I first heard most of this music as a whippersnapper cramps fan in 1980, and it switched me from punk to rockabilly ( a big deal in the days when that kind of identity crisis stuff felt important), and listening to it all again today, I was reminded of that spotty little snot I was all those years ago....lovely feeling, brilliant music, great value..

Real deal
In a world of similar compilations, this is one of the better ones. Largely because the rockabilly content far outweighs the r&r (yeah, I'm a bit of a pedant in this regard). Takes me back to those memorable mid-70s and on, when the term "rockabilly" became something of a marketing device, slapped on a superb series of albums, released by major UK labels, drawing from from their US catalogues. And, I might add, all compiled by enthusiasts mainly outside the scope of the record biz. For fans, by fans. And they sold! (MCA ROCKABILLIES, the first of a series of four, reputedly sold in excess of 30,000 copies). Let's not forget, either, the many bootleg albums, usually of European birth, plus hordes of repro 45s, of similar material. Happy days...ROCKIN' BONES cruises thru some of the best of those mid-70s releases (spanning, broadly, the mid-to-late 50s), when so many of us were getting to grips with the mongrel that was rockabilly, with its roots in country(billy), new boy r&r and a hint of r&b. I'm so familiar with all these tracks, having sold enough of them at the time, it's like a visit from old friends. Some of the artists are blindingly obvious, e.g., Holly, Lewis, Cochran, Perkins, Vincent, but thankfully, Fantastic Voyage have stayed away from the equally obvious titles. For the rest, as Carl said, "Put Your Cat Clothes On" and prepare to bop. My only concern with this set is, if you're of a certain age, and have been/are a rockin' collector, you may already own most - all?- these seminal tracks. But for a newbie, a highly recommended first toe in the murky waters of rockabilly.Packaging is excellent, a quad fold-out, handful of artist pix. More than made up for by the fine notes from Lucky Parker - who has the good grace to acknowledge her (!) sources - from which I picked up a nugget or two. More artist pix and label shots of many of the US labels. If you're new/ish to the music, you won't go wrong with ROCKIN' BONES (being a follow-up to 2009's GOOD ROCKIN' TONIGHT, tho I think BONES just might have the edge).
