Temperamental and very Frustrating. Look Elsewhere
I’ve really tried to love this printer because when it works, the print quality is excellent. I bought it to replace my 12 year old Epson 2400, which was a solid, reliable machine, but whose cartridges were becoming harder to find. After reading many reviews, the SC900 looked like the perfect upgrade, especially with its larger ink cartridges. Unfortunately, it’s incredibly temperamental and frustrating to use. The biggest issue is the paper feed, it jams constantly. Come on Epson! Feeding paper smoothly is a basic function and this printer struggles to get it right. I never know if it’s going to print properly or crumple the sheet. I’ve followed all the recommended fixes, but even when it does print, it often curls the leading edge of the paper. It's better with photopaper thankfully. To make things worse, my PC frequently reports that the printer is out of paper when it isn’t, and the only fix is a full reboot. The build also feels noticeably flimsier than older Epson models, particularly the paper tray.I’ve always been a loyal Epson fan, but this model just doesn’t meet expectations. I'd recommend avoiding this model and looking elsewhere, especially given it's very expensive.
