Great for ideas
Great for ideas, good that it has printeable templates too but is very much biased towards paper piecing. Some of the blocks could be made much more easily by making squares and slicing rather than piecing together so many triangles. I still think it has value though and I'm sure I will be referencing it a lot

I still think it is a good book although the foundation quilting section is limited
Lots of patterns, however to use them you have to have a pc and printer to print them out. It arrived morning of my hoilday took it with me to use some of the patterns I thought and then found this out. It does not tell you this in the advert. . I thought the book had the templates in it as well as the Cd. I still think it is a good book although the foundation quilting section is limited. So bear this fact in mind if you buy the book.

If you want to learn about adapting patterns, give this book a go!
This is a fabulous book for patchworkers who want to experiment with patterns and sizes of blocks. A really useful tool, blocks clearly explained and illustrated and sizing explained very well.

Lots of Blocks
A wonderful resource for building piecing skills and adding some challenge to quilt projects. The block designs in this book has something for every quilter.

Biggest Waste of My Money Ever!!!
What a joke, hate this book, yes...hate this book!!! I bought this used on Amazon otherwise I couldn't have sent it back fast enough. There are no patterns in the book, only pictures, there is a CD in the back where you have to look up the block you're interested in, print it out, take it to a photocopy place and either enlarge or decrease the template/picture/pattern, are you with me, right... So if that is what you had in mind then this book is for you. I don't know how this slipped by me, I always check out the reviews before I make a purchase, but somehow it did, bummer.

What a waste of money...
I am an experienced quilter, and I must say that this is the most disappointing quilting book I have seen in a long time. Rather than just say I hate it, I will explain why in as much detail as I have time for.1. Looking at the "template" blocks, they fail on the most basic count, which is the number of quilt blocks. Changing something simple (such as flipping the colors in one section of a two-color block) that just produces a bizarre-looking block doesn't really count as a new quilt block. I have been quilting for many decades, and I know that changing part of a block can allow you many different looks when you put the blocks together differently, but you don't get this result by just changing something at random. The purpose of many of these blocks is just to get to that magical number 1000, not to be useful.2. To get the "any size" part, you are supposed to take it to a photocopy shop and increase the size by the appropriate percentage. By that token, every single book offers an unlimited number of sizes.3. The template blocks, even when you use them in the basic size they come in, are exceedingly poorly designed. Seam allowances are not included (of course, because then you could not use the increase-size settings on a photocopier to get the "any size" factor), so you are left with lots of little bitty pieces to cut out individually, add the seam allowances individually to each one, and stitch together, most of them with a bias seam. There are methods which produce faster, more accurate results (by a factor of 10 to 100 in terms of time and effort) for virtually every template block in the book. For example, if you want a checkerboard design in two colors of squares, it will take you just short of forever to cut out by hand and sew together 16 little squares for a 16-patch block. The standard method is to cut strips of each fabric and sew them together. For example, if you want the finished squares to be 2" on a side, you cut out two strips of each fabric across the grain that are 2.5" wide. Stitch four together (a total of three seams), alternating colors. Press the seam allowances all the same direction, then use a quilting ruler to cut evenly across one end. (Use the grid on the ruler to make sure that your end cut is at proper right angles to the strip set.) Cut out four strips using the first cut as your starting point, each strip 2.5" wide. Lay them out, flipping every other one. Notice that you have a checkerboard already? And notice that now your seam allowances point opposite directions where the seams meet? Stitch them together (three more seams), and your block is finished, and if you have been appropriately careful, you have an extremely neat, accurate block that has been stitched in just six seams. Experienced quilters know this, and the book would be useless for them. Inexperienced quilters might not, and they would experience only frustration.4. Even worse are the blocks made almost entirely of half-square triangles. Cutting out fifty half-square triangles for a typical block using their template method would be a disaster, since you would be sewing on the true bias repeatedly, causing them to stretch out along the seam. You can buy any number of products which consist of printed pages or strips that allow you to sew together all the half-square triangles (or quarter-square) before doing any cutting, greatly minimizing the distortion that you get when sewing on the bias, or you can buy just one (Triangulations 3.0 CD: Quarter Square in 1/8" Increments, NEW Half Square in 1/16" Increments, NEW Tamed Geese in 1/4" Increments) and print out all the half- and quarter-square triangles you need, in a huge range of sizes that you don't need to enlarge on a photocopier or add seam allowances to. (The CD is not a program, but a pdf document, and you just jump to the page that has the size you need and print out the pages in the number needed for your purposes.) You place your two pieces of fabric right-sides together with a printout on top, stitch along the stitching lines and then cut along the cutting lines, yielding almost zero fabric waste. The results are so much faster and so superior to using templates that there is no comparison. It is so efficient to produce squares made of half-square (or quarter-square) triangles with this product that you can make a bunch of them and then sit there and rotate various squares to see just how many designs you can come up with. It is satisfying, entertaining, and educational all at once.5. Now we come to the paper-pieced models. If you already know how to do paper-piecing and are good at it, you should do fine, but if not, don't expect to be able to learn it from this book. They had to toss out quite a bit to come up with their magic 1000 number, and useful information had to go.The only reason that I did not give this book the minimum 1 star was the alphabet(s). That is something that is not usually included in quilting books, and has a great deal of potential. (There is one set of block numbers and letters suitable for any quilt, and a second set specifically meant for young children. Teens and tweens would likely not care for it.) I did not wish to invest the time to verify something mentioned in another review which described errors in the paper-pieced (now often called foundation-pieced, to distinguish them from English paper piecing) designs such as incorrect labeling. I would have to print out and then piece a number of blocks without any particular project in mind in order to test that. I do plan to do a few of these blocks in the future, and will change my review at that time to reflect my results.)If I had to recommend one or the other, I would go with the Triangulations 3.0 CD over this book. It can be had pretty inexpensively, but make sure you check multiple sources, since the price can vary from about $15 to $40, depending upon the seller. If you are a relatively new quilter, get a book that emphasizes template-free piecing, which has the potential to revolutionize your quilting, not only allowing you to make things faster, but more precisely. I would say that each of those things took my quilting to an entirely new level. Triangulations 3.0 CD: Quarter Square in 1/8" Increments, NEW Half Square in 1/16" Increments, NEW Tamed Geese in 1/4" Increments

Don't waste your money!
The idea of a book with 1,000 Quilt blocks and the cd with the instructions sounded great. I have purchased other quilting books (alot of Carol Doak, and some others that have mixed techniques) and I admit I usually am a bad consumer in that I don't review - that's usually because they are good and I feel others can say it better. This however is so awful that, words cannot express how bad.) I admit I think of myself as an advanced-beginner/intermediate quilter - I have done 2 queen size quilts and 8 lap quits, two kits, and 5 table runners. I was doing mainly regular technique but found paper piecing and fell in love - now mainly try doing that (hated that my points never lined up consistently before)Lets skip the idea of no cutting instructions for the 4-patch,9-patch sections, the so called templates for the curved were a joke, no real instruction to tell you what to do or how to do it. Now remember they have a few set sizes in the book and if you want your block bigger (I am using 12" for a quilt I'm working on) I am going to have to blowup the pattern. If your not using paper piecing it is interesting to do for most of the blocks since the instructions - arent. All they are is THE PICTURE. WOW I feel if Im good enough to figure everything out from a picture why did I buy a book. Now the Paper Piecing part is where I really got aggravated (what I was mainly looking at). Lets just say ouch... You insert the CD and try and find your pattern, open the PDF and ... you have a picture, with no quarter inch around it, and usually if multisections those all together in the picture. So for my 12" finished block I find the 6" block pattern, print it out, then blow it up 200%... well I will try and cut it apart first and sometimes the sections match properly and make sense but often its mislabeled with labels in same sections as others and half the pattern without any, missing letters (a, b, c, e, f, h) that is a joy to try and put together. Then you have the pattern itself with things mislabeled.. lets just put numbers wherever and not worry about if its the same from section to section. I saw many misnumbering for the lines. If your advanced enough that all you need is a picture than this book is great. I saw some that I will still try and attempt even though I am pretty sure it wont be pretty. If your like me and still like to have some clue about how to do something or a new technique then you may want to skip over this one.

We love it.
We have a Arts & Crafts Gallery, one of our artists paints Bar Quilts. I have a copy of this book at my store and the artist has one at her shop. Customers can pick out a pattern and I can quickly reference the pattern to our Barn Quilt artist. We love it.
