This book is not an easy, but it's very important. Although it was completed in 1970 the topics are still very relevant. As a white person I think it is essential to read black literature in order to get a true understanding of what it means to be a black person in the US. We (white people) can never know what it's like to be targeted by the police, denied basic means, or any of the other numerous examples of racial inequality simply for the color of our skin. If we want to make serious change and truly be allies we need to understand the problem. George Jackson outlines many of these issue within this book.Also LOL @ the people calling this propaganda, I think they might have missed some of the most important points of this book.

This could've been written today ... it shows how little things have changed for black folks in the US. Be it policing, the 'US dept of justice', redlining, structural racism and on and on. To the people saying it's propaganda, or just some 'black panther bs'- George Jackson was very direct in telling you the material conditions of life in the US. I think y'all just didn't want to hear it. It was 'too hard' for you. Too bad.Great book, great read, took lots of notes. In conjunction with this book, I'd recommend Amie Cesaire's 'Discourse on Colonialism', and 'Wretched of the Earth' by Fanon

It gave me a real in depth look at what the writer was saying, and feeling.It was a time in history when revolution was sought after by those who were marginalized, and disenfranchised.Not really agreeing with the tactics, but, understanding the feeling of hopelessness in the main character wasrefreshing,
