Toys to Sew

I bought this book to make the felt dinosaurs. I loved the design of the dinosaurs, and the fact that they looked simple to make for a novice sewer. However, I found the instructions were frequently questionable and sometimes just incorrect. Similarly, some of the pattern pieces were incorrectly labelled and the number of pieces required contradictory. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Really good book. Patterns are straight forward and the results are as in the images.

Excellent book and if you're brave just make the patterns bigger (to scale) and make bigger toys! Great fun to use up your leftover fabric.

I am a big fan of Claire Garland, her designs are whimsical and retro but in a way that can be adapted to your own style of crafting but this book was a let down. It is specifically because this is a sewing book containing patterns that need copying and enlarging but the size of the book-a square- meant that you sometimes had to copy a page twice to get the entire design.It was only a little thing but when you consider that you have to enlarge by 100% on most designs you will spend a lot of time copying.I think it was a lack of foresight on the publishers part.

Some of the projects in this book are deceptively easy to make, such as the animals made from socks. The dolls however do look a little odd but there is plenty of availability to adapt the designs to suit your own needs.

I like this book, and have made most of the items in it for my daughter. I have also lent it to friends, who have then bought their own copy. I like the author, and this copy was given as a gift.
