Mighty Avengers, Vol. 1: The Ultron Initiative

Pro-registration Avengers Assemble!
With the dust of Civil War settled, and new S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Tony "Iron Man" Stark starting his fifty state initiative, he sets his sights on creating a new team of pro-registration Avengers. Featuring some ultra-familiar faces, Tony's new team features himself, Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man, Wasp, Black Widow, Ares, and his former New Avengers team mate The Sentry. Things get kind of weird though as the Mighty Avengers embark in battle with the creatures of the Mole Man, especially when Tony morphs into an all-powerful female construct claiming to be the longtime classic Avengers foe Ultron. Were it not for the energy and surprising sense of wonder that writer Brian Michael Bendis manages to inject in Mighty Avengers, the book as a whole just wouldn't work. However, his lineup makes more sense than his original New Avengers lineup, and there are enough comedic moments sprinkled between the action pieces to keep you interested. One thing that should be mentioned though in regards to Bendis: what is with the thought bubbles? There are so many throughout this hardcover collection that you'll think you're back in the silver age, and they are quite annoying, especially when placed between the dialogue bubbles. Flaws aside, the real selling point of The Ultron Initiative is the gorgeous artwork of the great Frank Cho, who never disappoints. All in all, while Bendis' New Avengers is still a superior book, the Mighty Avengers get off to a pretty good start, and there is enough promise here for something really special to develop.

I would have given it 4 but I know it's just the start for this team
I have been reading each Avengers title after Disassembled and on, so I've come to love the team of New Avengers with their big name members like Spider-Man & Wolverine but what made that book shine was that it made lesser known heroes shine within the group dynamic. Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, Echo & Iron Fist among others all feel like they belong together fighting wrongs.I has apprehensive when I began reading Mighty Avengers because it wasn't the team I have been enjoying and it had few characters that I've even read about. I'll be honest though, after a bumpy start, the book came together and was pretty fun. I can tell it's just the start of something big and I almost purchased the collection that includes Vol. 2 but I wanted to test the waters first (and it was cheaper to buy them individually.)All in all, it was worth it. The team is a little bland but that's to be expected with the roster and the fact that they are basically the super-police. A little more time into the series and I'm sure the characters will bloom more. The thing between Iron Man & Black Widow is already interesting and the other team interactions seem like they'll add that much more to later volumes.I recommend it and that if you haven't already, pick up the New Avengers books up to Vol. 7 and read them first. The Initiative is another great reading series that loosely ties in but isn't necessary but awesome as well.

Tony gets a makeover, ultron style
So ultron uses Tony Starks extremis virus to remake Tony into something naked, partially silver woman who looks exactly like the wasp, the ex wife of ultrons creator. Then mutton tries to destroy the world for reasons. That's more or less what happens in this volume, abit with more banter and interpersonal drama. This isn't bending best work as a writer, he decided to put thought balloons among all the dialogue, which made a lot of characters come off as kind of petty. Cho's art is good, but all of his lovingly drawn female butts get kind of silly after about the third issue. All in all, this isn't the best avengers story, it's not even the best ultron story. I enjoyed it, but it'd not a must read by any means.

A formidable foe in beautiful female form
Set after Civil War, Tony Stark is the head of SHIELD and has asked Carol Danvers (Miss Marvel) to lead a new Avengers group. Included in the team are the Black Widow, Sentry, Wasp, Ares and Wonder Man. Less than 20 minutes after the last selection has been made when an attack comes. It turns out that a new version of Ultron has arrived to kill every living thing on the planet.I found the story engaging and well thought out and the artwork top notch. It also didn't hurt that Ultron took the form of an incredibly hot, seemingly naked, woman.I read this on my 7"kindle fire HD and had no problem reading the text and the art stood out in panel view. I highly recommend this book.

Another team of Avengers and the return of Ultron
This volume collects the first six issues of Marvel's 2007 "Mighty Avengers" launch. Tony Stark/Iron Man and Carol Danvers/Ms. Marvel assemble yet another new team of Avengers including Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Janet Van Dyne/Wasp, Simon Williams/Wonder Man, Ares and the Sentry. Having first appearing in 1968's Avengers #54, in this plotline the maniacal robot Ultron returns to Earth to destroy all organic life. Ultron assumes Iron Man's body before changing into another familar form and hastening Earth's demise. A helicarrier crash leaves Natasha as temporary head of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the heroes try to stop Ultron. Brian Michael Bendis and Frank Cho are the writer and penciler/inker, respectively. Though the story is above-average for this sort of six-issue superhero arc, Bendis' dialogue is marred by intermittent thought balloons that grow tiresome. Frank Cho's art is superb, most notably for a few characters.

Has a cliffhanger but at least it finishes the main story
This was actually a decent graphic novel. The artwork is excellent and the story is exciting. It is just what happens to Tony Stark in the story that I find a little hard to take. These stories are always fantastic so the line of believability is high meaning when I read these stories I am usually able to go with it no matter how odd the plot twists are. However, in this case I wasn't able to. Other than that the graphic novel is a great read and if you like the Avengers you may want to try this one.

bought it for Frank Cho's art. He draws bombshell women.
First things first, I bought my copy from owlsmart_usa, and It was beat to shjt. There is a 180 degree creased bend on the front cover. The front cover is broken and near falling away from the spine of the book. All pages are beat and show signs of wear. If I had paid more I would demand a refund. As for the book, I bought it for Frank Cho's art. He draws bombshell women. The book colletcs Mighty Avengers vol 1 1-6 2007.

Some of the best of the Mighty Avengers
Great adventure by Bendis, characters rock, just wish they could've maintained this quality both prior and after Secret Invasion

A good read although how this Ultron comes to be is ...
A good read although how this Ultron comes to be is quite the stretch of the imagination. The artwork is great and action packed. The story structure, with flashbacks interlaced with the action (as has become the norm with TV drama), runs well and I like the thought bubbles mixed within the dialogue.
