I like Big knives and I cannot lie.
Another quality purchase! I admit to having an addiction to machetes and Kukris'. I like Big Knives and I cannot lie . This 25" blade came out of the box SHARP. It did have a little excess oil on the blade, but that just shows that Cold Steel cares about sending their blades protected from rust. Great quality control! Now then, after a run over a strop, it seemed adequately honed and ready for action. At the log pile, it delivered several hard chops and threw chunks impressively. I was a bit concerned over the blade seeming thin at 2.8 mm, but it cut well, and stayed fairly sharp. No vibration was evident. It is LARGE, and won't be riding my hip any time soon, but it is meant for the canoe anyway. I can tell that it WILL be a workout in an extended session, but that's okay. The sheath is very simple and doesn't have molle capability but I can work around that. The price at $35.00 is a steal. I would recommend this beast for anyone that wants a big knife!

Excellent Barong for the price!
This is a terrific blade! I bought it in remembrance of my Filipino Mother and my Grandfather who was a Filipino Guerrilla during WW2. the Weight and feel are perfect. Thank you so much Amazon and Cold Steel!

Worth the wait.
Getting my barong was absolute hell, two weeks, but that was entirely due to the post office. Amazon had it in my small town post office at 3:20 a.m. on the second day. The post office then shipped it to another state, shipped it across my stare three days later to our neighbor state on the other side, held it there for eight days for โprocessingโ, then finally delivered it 12 days late. That said, Iโm in love! The machete is big but beautifully balanced. The blade is sharp and meaty, the handle is comfortable, and the sheath is snug but not too tight. I immediately went out and whacked down some honeysuckle vines and on impact the blade SINGS a sweet tune, telling me what a good job itโs doing!

The Cold Steel Barong machete is an excellent blade for the price!
I purchased this a few months ago. I have cut down several saplings, practiced test cuts on a some pumpkins and performed some martial arts forms and many repetitions of cuts. In my experience, the Cold Steel Barong machete is an excellent blade. I would say the barong shape is great for defensive training, but not my go to choice for wilderness survival or bushcraft. At least for me, the blade shape doesn't lend itself to camp chores. I prefer other blade styles, such as, the golok, the parang, the bolo, and a regular machete for wilderness survival training Of course, if it is the only blade you have to rely on you will make it work. There are better machetes and blades out there for bushcraft. During one of my test cutting practices, I hit a metal fence and dinged the blade. A fine 8" file quickly repaired the ding. When swung hard against dense objects like wood, I have felt some shock, and occasionally during a hard swing the back of my hand hit the curve of the handle and it hurt a little. These are very minor criticisms. I think it is extremely important to remember that this blade cost anywhere from $20 to $30 bucks. Often in these reviews people seem to lose sight of that. If you don't have a lot of money and want a do-it-all, self defense/survival blade this is a damn good choice. The tip is strong for thrusting but not unbreakable. The blade is thick enough to last for a very long time. I would strongly recommend this blade. Of course, the sheath sucks, but it does hold the blade. I purchased a kydex for it and I am quite happy. Overall, this machete is a keeper.

Usual Cold Steel Quality
I've purchased Cold Steel knives before and have always been satisfied. This machete is no exception. I wanted to have something bigger than a folding knife for home defense, and in case I had to kill a snake. This was reasonably priced, so I was surprised to see the weight of it. It'll do.

Add grip to the handle, and you're set...for whatever.
Long enough and sharp enough (from the 'factory') to use in the woods of Northern MN. Cold Steel should be hyping this machete more than they do. It is a great all around tool. The handle has little texture, which is too bad because it has the best synthetic barong handle I've held. Not too big of a deal. Just add some rubber grip tape and your good to go. UPDATE 12/2024: Yes, the handle's are too thick and round; polypropylene...easy fix. These are the best machetes I own (I have two). I have barong machetes from several companies; these were the least expensive, lightest, sturdy but best flex, super easy to sharpen, and just fantastic for the price. Highly recommended!!!!!!

absolutely deadly
you could call this tha Stab 'O' matic because it sure would be the perfect tool for that job, it might be a good idea to leave it roughly sharp like it comes, but really either way, this thing would so easily whack all 4 digits off yer hand if you aren't CAREFUL! not a toy or for swords play .. the curved handle really adds force to a swing, this makes a regular machete seem like a waste of money, absolutely a much better tool .. I see folks saying the sheath is sub-par and I really much beg to differ The sheath is really high quality. . made from strong nylon like canvas called kaydex I think, riveted, and capped at the tip with flexy plastic. sturdy and reliable with the snap down strap around the handle.

Good tool
I put this to a wetstone as soon as I got it and took down a few tree limbs and ivy no issue right after. The handle is curved so I could put my whole shoulder into it for a max swing. The blade doesn't wobble when I strike, the grip is perfect for my hand but could be an issue for people with larger. It's hard to say how long this will hold up but I keep it sharp, avoid stones, and the blade hasn't knicked once so far. The sheath is functional but be warned that the Barong has a functional bladed point so be sure where you aim it on your hip when holstering or you'll end up with a trip for stitches.

Notevole
L'ho appena ricevuto: quarantasei centimetri de fero!
