Very fun Crossbows & Catapults Castle Battle game for kids of all ages
My kids and I have had a ton of fun playing with this Crossbows & Catapults Castle Battle game. The game is very easy to setup and play. You can quickly read through the instructions and get into the action after setting up your castles and characters. It is very fun and exciting to play, especially for younger kids since they get to destroy things. There are some minor tactical aspects of the game involving building the castle and the placement of the figures, but the real challenge is in the motor skills involved while learning how to aim and fire the crossbow and catapult. It's usually pretty tough to get my younger son to play board games since he doesn't like losing or following the rules. But he has actually caught onto this game really quickly and has gotten pretty good at shooting the weapons. He doesn't mind losing this game, since he's simply having fun shooting the weapons and knocking down castle pieces and figures. My older son also really enjoys this game, and we all take turns playing against each other. Half of the fun is watching the other two people play while waiting for your turn. It can get pretty exciting watching those final shots when each player is down to their last character. The quality of the game pieces is fantastic. All of the castle pieces, weapons, and characters look great and have awesome details. They are very well built, and we haven't found any issues or damages on any of the parts.Overall, we are very happy with this Crossbows & Catapults Castle Battle game. It has quickly become one of our family favorites. With the excellent quality of the parts, I'm sure this game will last a long time and will be played often. It is a great value for the price and we highly recommend it!

Great remaster, but simplified
This is a great throwback game and another awesome revive from Restoration games! This game was revived in a Kickstarter. It's really fun to play and easy understand. The rules are very simple. You set up a field of play where you can use the instruction booklet as the measuring tool. It even has a rulers built in. You then set up your castle and your figures. Each turn you can take two actions; you can move a figure or fire. You can do it an in any order or do two of one action, but you can only fire each weapon once per turn. You must fire from where your figure is. You get to go again if you take out the captain. That's it!The previous versions of the game, you could only move units a certain number of inches depending on the unit type and the weapon had to be moved as well. The weapon could only be fired if it was next to a unit. Technically, you can still play by these rules, but I wish it was included in the instructions for a more advanced set of rules people can play by if they are not aware of the older versions. Minus a star since I feel like that should have been included. Also of note, is that there is another version of this game called Fortress War that has more pieces, advanced rules, and cost a around double this version. I haven't played that version, so I can't compare it beyond that.Overall, the game pieces are high quality. The crossbow was kind of hard for my kid to use, but he will get it with practice. I love how you can adjust the angle on the catapult. The castle wall pieces are well made. I hope there is an expansion since I would like to build a bigger castle without having to buy the more expensive version of this game. It's really fun dexterity game to play and I recommend it!

High quality, classic fun game/artillery toy, fun for all ages.
I never had this when I was a kid, but I remember the commercials, and I certainly coveted it. From what I've heard, that 90's version was pretty well-put-together, but if anything this refresh by Restoration Games has got to be even better.I really am pleased that there are no rubber bands involved, in either the crossbows or the catapults -- the catapults use a nice resilient spring, and the crossbows work based on pinching the two halves together towards the base, to shoot out the disc. You really can learn to shoot with reasonable accuracy with both. And the castle building blocks are chunky and solid, so you can build with them and them withstand some hits, though they're also perfectly capable of being knocked down. I think they hit the balance there perfectly. The little guys you have to take out and the flag boundary markers are all nice enough, and there are little stickers and cosmetic shield pieces that snap in, which all together give it a really nice vibe in addition to its excellent functionality as an artillery battle game. This is the sort of thing the right kind of kids will play with over and over, coming up with their own stuff to use for augmenting their fortresses. And it's also enjoyable for adults -- whether against each other, or against a kid. Games like that are fairly rare, so I'm pleased to have this one, even if it involves shooting pieces that may fly off a table (or across the floor under something) and temporarily make themselves hard to find.I consider this a top notch product.

An fun update on a classic tabletop game
I had the original Crossbows & Catapults when I was a kid and was happy to see it come back.I recently played 'Crossbows & Catapults: Castle Battle' with my kids and we all had a lot of fun together. The combination of luck and skill makes for an engaging game for all ages. Setting up the castles and launching projectiles at each other adds a fun, tactile element. The pieces are sturdy and well-designed, and the gameplay is fast-paced and exciting. It's perfect for family game nights or competitive play with friends who also grew up with the original version.Overall, a fantastic mix of fun and strategy—definitely recommended!

For Young New Gamers - Dexterity & Strategy
It says on the box it's for 7 years old and above. I would say it's for maybe 4 and up, depending on the child's understanding of basic game concepts. I played with my 4 1/2 year old grandson. Each turn you have two moves - either move a warrior or fire your catapult or crossbow.Move - You may move your warrior, from what I understand, anywhere in your territory. It teaches them to think about when moving, offense, and defense. Do you move closer, exposing your warrior, for a better shot or do you pull back, to protect or hopefully get the other side to expose themselves?Fire - The two weapons are a catapult or crossbow. This teaches dexterity. You have to grasp the weapos a certain way to correctly fire. You also, for the crossbow, have to balance the disc on the bucket. No easy task even for me, a 58-year-old.He had a blast knocking down my castle and warriors. I don't think it has much replayability after you master the weapons. We played it twice and he was done. Luckily, I have another grandson who is 3, so I will eventually be teaching it to him and maybe the two of them will play it.ADULTS - This could be turned into a drinking game. Every time you knock down a warrior or castle piece you have to drink.
