Superb 2014 tablet, holds well for 2016...
Samsung throughout the years are known for making excellent hardware based mobile devices with poor software aka TouchWiz for their phones & tablets. If one can forgive TouchWiz for being a little slow, bloaty and cumbersome then you should be fine with their gear.I purchased the Tab S 8.4 to replace an ageing, but trusted Apple iPad 3. Sick to death of Apple's ever bloating, slow and 'whiter' operating systems I had to get away from iOS after years of use. Simplicity for their operating system is no longer a focus it seems and iOS 7 was the changing point.Anyway I digress. I had been looking at Android tablets for a while and decent ones are rare. Good screen, battery life, SD-Card capability, decent SoC, internal storage and USB OTG to name a just a couple of key features are difficult to find in a tablet. The Tab S 8.4 is a superb device - if you can find it as it is a 2014 tablet. Out of the box the OS was Android 5.01 (I can't quite recall) and I used the OS for a good couple of days without any issues at all. TouchWiz (Samsung's giant software layer sitting on top of android) was perfectly usable and non-intrusive. As usual it does make multitasking a bit of an issue since it uses up quite a bit of RAM. Sometimes I would switch between 2-3 apps and see them loading from scratch which pointed to typically aggressive ram management that also exists in my Galaxy Note 4 phone that my parents now use. Samsung have been learning though and TouchWiz is remarkably better (less bloat) on their latest phones.1. It is fast enough for everyday usage though the GPU capabilities are a bit lacking and scrolling can be a tiny bit laggy from time to time - this maybe due to it having to push such a high resolution panel, I am not sure though. The slower GPU wasn't a problem for me though as I don't game on mobile devices anymore (in app purchases meh).2. The screen is positively jaw dropping. If you've used IPS (in-plane switching) screens that iPhones and iPads use then this will blow you to a different level. Samsung are the main manufacturer for AMOLED screens and they've used a stunning one here featuring a resolution of 2,560x1600 and cramming in 353 pixels per inch. All of that on an 8.4" display means you have a very dense, colourful and vibrant display - and it shows. AMOLED panels give you true deep blacks and photos just look gorgeous on them.3. Fingerprint reader - useless. The reader on my Galaxy Note 4 mobile phone also had a useless one and this feels and even looks exactly the same. 4/10 fingerprint strokes were recognised first time round and to be honest I had zero intentions to use this feature anyway.4. Camera - I confess I never tried this at all. I have had 3 tablets in the past and have never once used their cameras. Tablets have always have had poor camera hardware and lets face it - for practical purposes a modern day phone will be better equipped and suited for the task of taking photos.5. Headphone Socket - This is located at the bottom of the device. Some folks like this, and some do not. It is a personal preference and for me I am not a fan, then again it is rare that I use headphones with tablets since I prefer bluetooth speakers.6. Battery life - I cannot be too detailed on this. I experienced roughly 2-3 day battery life when this tablet had the default TouchWiz OS on it. It was miles better than the Nvidia Shield I had just returned for having extremely poor life. I had purchased the tablet with the aim of wanting to install a custom ROM onto it - Cyanogen 12 in order to get more custom features and this extended the battery life to approx 3-4 days since it has less software bloat baked in. Charge times remain the same at about 3hrs from 0-100% - this varies heavily though but all in all, it charges at a respectable rate.To conclude I should say that my everyday tablet usage consists of browsing the web, checking emails, browsing Reddit (via third party app), checking Twitter (via the third party app), running Plex & Netflix for video streaming and finally for viewing DSLR camera photos from the SD Card via Quickpix. The Tab S 8.4 MORE than fulfils these requirements with ease. It is a lightweight device that is thin and therefore easy to hold that has good enough battery life that will easily last over a day and it has SD Card support for holding all your personal data (music, photos, videos etc).

Read my review. If you are curious about this product.
I did my research between this s model and the new tab s2 and decided to go for 2014 model (tab s).so far im happy with my decision.Pros:1) LED flash was bright and usefull as torchlight during emergency (s2 dont have it)2) screen resolution is 2560x1660 which is more better for watching movies and surfing. (S2 is 2048x1536)3) the speaker is on both top and bottom which give the surround type of sound (s2 have both stereo speaker on bottom next to the charging pot)4) the tab came preloaded with ANDROID 5.0.2 LOLLIPOP that allow for an easy change of user for the tablet ( same as tab s2 style).5) can set up to 8 different users on single tablet with each fingerprint for each user available6) love the PRIVATE mode, help me lock my gallery or photos that i wanna hide from peoples and need a fingerprint scan to see those hidden photos. REALLY HELPFUL no more 3rd party apps!7) speaker is crisper sound (s2 have hollow sound)8) MADE IN KOREA and UK SET WITH 1 YEAR UK WARRANTY ( i am sure that many wanted to know about this)9) the battery was good, i played music on DEEZER apps that i downloaded from google store. For 1 hours plus of music playback the batter on dropped 6%.On movie, i can watch 2 movies and only use around 30 to 40% of the full chargered battery (100%)10) doing WORDS,EXCEL, AND PPOINT on this is great, better if you have the samsung keyboard dock. It come preloaded with HANCOM office or you can simply download free microsoft office from google play for free.11) 16:10 ratio is better for movie, less black border on top and bottom of the movie (tab s2 have ipad type of size 4:3, but do bare in mine most of android apps on google play is.made of 16:10, therefore some of the apps will love a bit enlarge on tab s2 than a nice simple size on tab s)Cons:1) 1st generation of fingerprint, need to swipe on the screen all the way to home button which some time cannot recognized the fingerprint (tab s2 have better fingerprint that works like apple product, put finger on the home button and youre ready to go)2) the Touchwiz from samsung can be a bit laggy sometimes3) 16gb memory space (6gb for the systems) so you will have around 8gb to use. I bought 128gb from amazon for 26£ (Toshiba brand 48mbps).or you can get good one samsung evo+ 128gb for 40£ up to 80mbps speed4) the speaker is of you palm( especially when you use their book cover from samsung). I accidently close my speakers using my palms =_="5) the camera can go up to 3k resolution but the video can only go up to 1980x1280 (tab s2 camera have some improvement, the video can go up to 2056x1680. U can do more research on this but bad during night mode since they dont have flash led)6) the youtube video although it is 4k video, i can only video on maximum resolution of 1440 (what youtube allowed me to have on this tablet)7)plastic made rather than aluminium made on tab s28) not so heavy but 294gm can be quite heavy especially when i hold tab s2 265gm on my other hand. (Not so important)After all, i love my tablet.feel so good in hand and im happy with my decisionRecommemded seller. If you have question you wanna ask such as where it made in and what set is it (uk, eu or hong kong) u can ask the seller personally. He reply to me in less than a day.

Four Stars
I bought this for nostalgic reasons. However it's now too slow and also a little loose around the charging area, it may have been opened before. Never a good idea to buy electronics second hand :(

So very near perfect..
A very decent tablet and all you could want; it's fast, graphics on the screen are spot on and it provides a very nice user experience. Touchwiz has also evolved over the past few years, so much better than the years of my Galaxy S2. Only slight downfall of this tablet is the battery, doesn't last as long as my iPad and seems to use a lot of power when it's idle.Overall a great tablet running Android for decent price and all the features you would expect of a tablet in 2015.

I don't live in Hong Kong, Amazon!
For some reason Amazon have provided me with a Hong Kong variant without making it clear in the text of the item for sale - meaning that it has a forced Chinese keyboard and forced HongKong homepage in Chrome - crazy. I had to do a factory reset to try and get the language out of Chinese and into English when first powered on, and still get strange results in web searches with Chinese letters. Feel let down by Amazon. Great tablet, apart from that point (would give it a 5 if Amazon hadn't sent me a HK-regionalised tablet).
