"The Master Bladesmith: Advanced Studies in Steel"
I purchased this text as a gift for my son. It was highly recommended by other reviewers and even though it was a bit pricey, it was well worth every penney. One reviewer did not like the black and white photos, designs, and drawings, but as an instructional text that contains a vast amount of Indepth detail regarding the process of working with steel at an advanced level, the lack of color photography made perfect sense. This is a beautifully designed text but it is not an artsy text persay. My son has spent several hours studying the text and has said he learns something new every time he reviews chapters that he has already read. I would highly recommend this text to anyone interested in the art of working with steel and learning all the finer points. Beginner and expert would find this text both an educational and an enjoyable read.D.J. Gerber

Kindle version is a big disappointment
Unfortunately, this book is not worth the money (at least not the Kindle version). Very short, and mostly outdated. All the information in this book can be found for free on the Google or the Youtube. It reveals no secrets. The physical book may be better, but the Kindle version is a major disappointment. Would not recommend,

Excellent book, good pics and Jim Hrisoulas tells you how to do things PROPERLY, not half @$$ed
Excellent book, Jim Hrisoulas tells you how to do things PROPERLY, not half @$$ed. He inspired me to start my own blacksmith shop, along with a few other books, for the prices you can get this book, it has incredible artwork along with a contact list for all of the artists, emails, phone numbers, etc. They welcome questions as this is a fairly rare craft nowadays.

Sweet book
Sweetest continuation to its Master Bladesmith book. In the best style of Jim, fulll of diagrams, pictures and straight to the point explanations. A pleasure to read and study, and a good study reference for working later on the forge.

PDF not an ebook
Not really informative. Also, too small type to read on a kindle reader. Short and expensive. Put your money elsewhere.

slice to meet you
Great book if your after new techniques you hadn't even thought of. Good book for the advanced smith who want to know more than punching bending twisting and grinding, look for the cheaper books as some of the prices listed are steep

3/4 way through it
It's as it says (advanced). Not a good book for beginners but great for existing blade makers and associated trades.

I support the work of Jim Hrisoulas having read through his books, "The Complete Bladesmith" and "The Pattern-Welded Blade". With clear writing and supporting photographs, this series of books are an asset to the promotion of the craft.
