Interpretation: Techniques and Exercises (Professional Interpreting in the Real World, 4) 2nd Edition

If you are an interpreter or translator and want to refine and hone your skills, this is the book for you. It is my most favorite textbook. It will help you appreciate and develop your ability to succintly translate the nuance of words from one language to another. Que bueno.

As a foreign language learner, I was interested in language interpretation, I searched Amazon and I bought this book with decent reviews from multiple reviewers.After receiving the book, spent a couple of hours checking the content of the book. To be honest, I was very disappointed, because I found out more than half of the content is complete useless unless you do speak French or Spanish.The content of book is like this, there are 16 chapters. In every chapter, the author explain a new concept and describes it like only a page, then after that you get like 10 pages of excises. There are over 300 pages in this book, so most of the content is excises.The problem is, nearly half of the excises are written in Spanish or French. But the thing which annoyed me most was the author didn't bother to put English translation to most of Spanish and French sentences, so if you don't have same language pairs as the author of the book, you are pretty much screwed.Also a lot of concepts are explained for people who understand French or Spanish, so when the author is trying to explain subtlety of the translation between languages, if you are unfortunate enough to don't speak those languages, you have no idea what he is talking about.The author's lack of empathy toward people who do have different language pairs really amazes me. At least he should've put "for Spanish and French speakers" in the title.

I guess I didn't read the description closely enough. While it has some great general information, most of the practice activities are for Spanish and French interpreters.

Usually books about interpreting are all about the theory, but most of the book is based on exercises, which is perfect for me. I would only ask for it to be a little longer!
