Original Album Series

A funky little surprise.
This is good music all the way through. The vibe is 70's funk/soul, but make no mistake about the music, it's real. It's not edgy, nor over-driving, it's right smack dab in the middle. Music dosen't have an age, but I would say the period is suited for over 50 people the best. It's not rap, not heavy metal, just gorgeous 70's funk/soul. I would compare them to War in some aspects, but smoother. The drummer is great, bass player is great, keyboard player is great, guitar player is great, and the vocals are nice funky soul. This is not James Brown soul, not Rick James funk, this is steady middle of the road funk/soul. In other words, it's excellent ! Five disks ! I think any music lover could listen to it and not have a problem with it.

original new orleans soul and grooves
how fortunate are we for the meters. not half as fortunate as now having original album series and their prices. yeah the meters that kind of spawned the Neville Brothers. if you as a music lover are a fan of any new orleans music this is the place to come. sure you all know about fats domino al hirt and just maybe duke robillard but this is the place for the soul grooves that dominated new orleans during the formative years . play these discs dance with abandon and work out in tempo. this is pretty fun stuff here. and enjoy the fashions and hairstyles of the times with the cover photos. each and every one of these discs rates 5 stars overall the fact they can be had for 20 bucks makes them even more precious.

Why are The Meters not in the Rock Hall Of Fame? They should be and this is proof!
Anytime you can get a deal like this on music take it. Specifically, The Meters collection here is stellar. Each of these albums have that element of what we know the Meters for but for someone not so informed on the deeper cuts, it offer a great opportunity to really dive in to see what they are all about. So what are they all about? The Meters are the most unique and original funk band in history. None of their contemporaries and no one since has sounded like them and they were clearly one of the most influential bands in rock history. After they hit the scene you could hear bands like Zeppelin and the Stones trying to "borrow" heavily from their style.

A must for your Funk Collection
A must for ANY Funk collection. The Meters were in a class by themselves. I hear many influences in them, and how they have influenced others today. From Sly & The Family Stone, to Robert Randolph & The Family Band. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Bargain 5CD Box from The Meters
Got this superb value for money 5CD box recently and it's worth the price alone just to get hold of a copy of the Meters magnificent Rejuvenation (disc 2). The LP was originally released in 1974.There's plenty of wonderful tracks too on disc 1 - Cabbage Alley (1972).Disc 3 - Fire On The Bayou (1975) includes, among other gems, the wonderful and essential lengthy guitar led instrumental, Middle of The Road. There is evidence of disco influenced vibes throughout disc 4 -Trick Bag (1976) & disc 5 - New Directions (1977) but don't let that inevitable musical direction taken by the band deter anyone familiar with previous Meters albums from investigating. I have enjoyed both these albums in equal measure but wouldn't necessarily be interested in purchasing them as individual albums. The real clincher here though is getting these 5 Meters albums, which are all presented in mini cardboard replica LP sleeves, all in one go and packaged in this cool looking 5CD budget box set. There is a good sound on all CDs and Trick Bag & New Directions may well be remastered versions.Four of these albums were originally produced by Allen Toussaint & Marshall Sehorn. New Directions was produced by David Rubinson & Friends.

A whole lotta Funk. Not a whole lotta bread.
This collection comes in a cardboard slipcase that contains each of the five discs in its own individual cardboard sleeve, like a mini vinyl LP sleeve. This is definitely a budget repackaging of back catalog items, with no extra tracks, booklets or other add-ons, but if you're a fan it's a treasure trove. All The Meters' albums for Warner/Reprise, including "Fire on the Bayou", their best known and biggest seller.Though this is a budget reissue, these discs sound as good as they ever have, without the heavy-handed compression and EQ that have become so common with recent "remasters". The full dynamic range and tonal balance remain unmolested. Thanks to Rhino for respecting the music. And what music it is; If you know The Meters, you know you want this in your collection. If not, give 'em a listen...and then you'll want this in your collection.

Best Original Albums Purchase
I own two of the albums on vinyl but for ease and convenience the set is good. I have enjoyed very much the albums I didn't previously own. One of my best Original albums purchases.
