A great digital thermometer for candies, is not oven safe
Purchased as a candy thermometer for fudge this year after my mercurial one broke. Easy to clean and has a pot clip. Accurate, and runs on two watch batteries with an automatic off feature when not in use. Multiple temperature settings and will beep when done. Do NOT put this in the oven. While it works fine with the clip as a candy thermometer, if used for meats you cannot put this in the oven or over a grill. You will need to skewer the meat and wait for an accurate temperature and then remove it and continue cooking as necessary.

Works great for a boil alert.
Bought this because I always can't hear when the water boils in the kitchen since I have an induction stove. Bought this and set to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Beeps to let me know the water is boiling. Highly recommend!

Great Thermometer with Addition of Expensive Pot Clip.
This is a pretty good thermometer. I test it from time to time in ice water and it is within 2 degrees F and gets there pretty quickly. The pot clip will make a nice addition to your trash can. I also have a more expensive digital candy thermometer which is even more accurate, but takes up to 10 minutes to read the correct temperature so I took the pot clip off of it and put it on this thermometer. I just wanted to give an update. I bought this about 1 1/2 years ago and it is still pretty accurate. Unfortunately the LCD display can't handle the heat. When I get over about 240 F it gets harder and harder to read. Maybe I can set up the beeps to let me know where I am. I have had a huge amount of trouble finding a good candy thermometer. I have a Javelin Pro instant read thermometer that so far is great at reading temperature, but you have to hold it. I just bought a Winco candy thermometer that has a great pot clip and stays out of the way in the pot, but guessing is more accurate than the thermometer.

Truly Superb Candy Thermometer !
This candy thermometer is perfect for its intended purpose. I have read the many complaints about the clip, but don't quite understand why that is enough of an issue to downgrade this fine thermometer. I have always made a lot of candy and prepared various sugar solutions for French pastry and candy cooking. I never, ever used the clip on any of those thermometers. If you leave the thermometer clipped to the edge of the pan, you will never get a really accurate reading for delicate sugar preparations. The temperature on the side of the pan is usually cooler than in the center and the clip prevents you from throughly stirring and scraping the bottom and side of the pan. Just stir the pan really well, submerge the tip of the thermometer in the mixture, making very sure to NOT touch the bottom of the pan(this will cause a false reading, as the bottom of the pan next to the burner will be much hotter than the mixture as a whole), and Voila!, you will have a very precise temp. reading, every time. The thermometer is easy to use and is long enough that your fingers will not be burned by the hot steam while you are submerging the therm. in the hot mixture for a reading. I highly recommend this thermometer to anyone, it measures very accurately and allows for perfect candy and sugar solutions during each use. The only thing that would cause this Therm. to malfunction would be human error (see above review). And no, I do not work for or have any connections to the manufacturer. I just really like this piece of equipment.

Does not work at high temperatures
We were cooking toffee which requires it to be at 285°. Any time the thermometer would get around 230° the digital thermometer would start bleeding together and be impossible to read. I would have to cool it down and then put it back in to get a reading. If I left it in the mix mixture when it hit 285° the thermometer screen would completely turn black. It would take a long time for to cool down before it started working again. This is an inferior product.

Works well
Very easy to read. Hangs easily from pot. It works very well and seem to read accurately.

Super durable
TLDR; really stands up to the test of time. I have had this thermometer for nearly five years. Originally purchased to make candy and caramels but it is now a staple in our kitchen. But here is the wildest test for it that I do not recommend. I was baking a large cut of meat. Set the thermometer to the desired temperature and inserted in to the meat. My kids came barreling in to the kitchen arguing so I shut the oven door for "just a second" to shoo them out. I obviously got distracted and resumed my other cooking. Twenty minutes later I hear beeping coming from the oven that the temperature has been reached. I fly to the oven to save the thermometer but the screen was completely black and not operational. I put the thermometer on the counter to return to after dinner and search the brand name to replace it. A couple of hours later I returned to find that the screen was back to normal! I have continued using it without issue! Would not recommend using the thermometer in the oven but keep hope if you accidentally do.

Did temperature test in boiling water. Temp set to 212. Warning went off as it should at 209 degrees. Mine does not screech loudly as another reviewer said and it flashes red light as it should. My sauce pan has a lip and the clamp held fast..no movement. Screen did not go black at this temperature (212). Haven't gone higher. Screen is small for those of us with not so good eye sight. I just turn this around so I can see the screen better. I think this works better in a little taller pan. TIP: If the probe slips in the holder just bend in the part underneath where the teeth are that holds the probe. It tightens it right back up. Then push the probe back in to the holder. Now it's nice and tight. Pulling the probe in and out when cooking/cleaning stretches the teeth part. Easy fix!!
