The Miss Marple Collection

Despite other adaptations of the Marple stories, for me this is the best collection.Joan Hickson is a delight as the incomparable frail village busybody with a mind of steel.The 12 original Miss Marple novels were filmed as part of this BBC series (1984 - 1992), and every one of them is a belter.Music, sets, costumes and settings are perfect. Great casts too, including Donald Pleasence, Paul Eddington, Joan Sims, Sylvia Syms, Kevin Whateley, Peter Davison, Tom Wilkinson, Annette Badland, Timothy West, Trudie Styler, Kenneth Cope, Liz Fraser, Sophie Ward, Joss Ackland, Judy Cornwell, Glynis Barber, and many others.I watched the series when it was originally broadcast, and always looked forward to the next episode or instalment. So this DVD collection brings back happy memories.And I'm very pleased that this version of the DVD boxset (released in 2024) also includes Subtitles, for the hard-of-hearing, which will come in handy as I get older!

I prefer the Joan Hickson 'Marple' to later versions because the reserved manners and behaviour remind me of my 1950s childhood.This product is easier to handle and store than the earlier product that was styled like a hardback book.

Well it is a classic Joan Hickson the very best Miss Marple but one of the discs kept stalling so had to send back waiting for a replacement
